Just a bit of advice don't trust the government ulez checker, and actually don't trust what you read in the club magazine either.
A few years (ulez round 1) back it was printed how a 996 was not the Porsche to buy as it wasn't ulez compliant.
I wrote to the magazine to tell them this information was incorrect as mine passed, they said a retraction statement would be printed.
I chased it for a few months but never saw the statement.
Now roll on a few years (ulez round two) and many people will be outing all sorts of vehicles as the ulez checker tells you your vehicle is not compliant.
This may actually be false, as if the V5 document doesn't state the nox levels it will be instantly deemed as non compliant.
I suggest you write to the manufacturer for whatever you own and ask for the emissions levels as many will pass.
It's a catch 22 manufacturer's wont challenge the governments as they then won't sell new cars and when the emissions figures are challenged it's on a 1 to 1 instead of the dvla then saying all this make/model now pass.

It's a real mess, and a lot of people should be ashamed.

I’ve been looking at this too and it seems that all 996s will be compliant with the NOX level. I’ve downloaded the application to get the cars certificate of conformity from Porsche UK. There is a cost of £106 to get it.

l have not sent it off yet but will be doing it soon. I live just outside the ULEZ zone but have to drive in it to go anywhere.

i will report back once I’ve got it approved by TFL

Hi,
This is potentially great news.
I live within the new ULEZ zone and whilst I had no plans to sell my car I did consider renting a garage outside of the zone.

Do you have a link to the form mentioned so that I can also download a copy and apply.

Many thanks
Gerry

Hi David
I’m aware it was free last year. This form has no date on it as to when it was produced. It’s bad news that they now feel the need to put quite a heavy charge on obtaining one, especially considering you may be disappointed on the results obtained.

Porsche Germany will supply this for free.

It's the DVLA's error anyone for not being bothered to do their job in the first place and check the actual levels.

I didn't have to obtain it but i've seen the proof, so best of luck to anyone that needs it.

The whole affair is disgusting.
it shouldn't be on a 1 to 1 basis, just as equally any vehicle that were to be tested, if the nox level differed to that of the V5 it would also then fail, yet that whole make/model gets a pass on that v5 value.

The DVLA are using figures that have been proven to be lies (VW & Merc) scandal, well this is the ULEZ scandal because the same facts and figures are being used by hypocrites.

So food for thought, if you have a crappy old van worth say 150 quid and its registered to your business and insured for your business.
Did you know the government will send you a 5k cheque upon proof of a scrappage certificate?, you don't have to buy another vehicle it just a straight swap (who you thinks paying for that) US.
Flip side supposing you have a nice sign written van custom fitted for your trade, worth about 14k (now de-valued by not being ulez compliant) yep you get 5k too, only 9k short plus the extra cash you'll need to get into a stupid electric van that's range is pathetic once fully loaded.

Ooh isn't driving fun now days.

Well done to the boroughs that have challenged and refused to install TFL's cameras, And lets hope waze does another map to get people around the expansion cameras just like they did the first time around.

Dear all,
Thank you for all of your replies, I appreciate them all.
I will certainly try and contact Porsche in Germany to se if they will issue a free service.
In the event that I don't get any joy I will try Andy's suggestion.
I'd love to keep it at home and this is a potential solution.
Thank you all once again.
Gerry

I sent an email to Porsche Germany this morning and awaiting a response, will let you know if and when they reply.
Not too concerned for myself as it will rarely affect me at present.

I enquired about this not too long ago & was advised to email back a scanned copy of the completed form. I was informed they (Porsche GB/Reading) would relay this to Germany, but there was no mention of a charge for this. As it transpired, my V5 already has the relevant details, so I didn't bother following through for the CoC.

It is also worth noting, that there are several other CAZ zones around the UK (eg Birmingham & Bristol), which are NOT operated by Transport for London (TFL) & there will likely be more introduced in the future. So I'd recommend you check your own cars status & request exemptions where you think it may be applicable.

For details see: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/driving-in-a-clean-air-zone#cities-with-clean-air-zones
You can check your car for National CAZ zone compliance by selecting the "check a vehicle" option here: https://multiple-vehiclecheck-pay.drive-clean-air-zone.service.gov.uk/what_would_you_like_to_do
TFL operate independently of the above, but you can check your car for London ULEZ compliance here: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/check-your-vehicle/

TFL had picked up the correct details from my V5 so my car was granted an exemption for London ULEZ, however despite DVLA having the correct details, their CAZ department still deemed my car as non-compliant for Birmingham & Bristol zones (from the 2nd link above).

So I suspect the DVLA CAZ dep't may just be relying on vehicle age to determine the exemptions for Birmingham & Bristol zones, rather than looking up the emissions details they already have on record.

I submitted a request for exemption for these zones via the form here: https://contact.dvla.gov.uk/caz & received an email within a few days to confirm they would grant this. Within a week, the second link above now shows my car as being exempt from all current CAZ zones.

Credit to ½cwt on another forum for some of the above info on CAZ's. See https://www.boxa.net/topic/95277-how-to-register-your-986-as-compliant-with-tfl-london-ulez-and-caz-clean-air-zones/

Incidentally, if you plan to travel in Europe, then you can order the German & French exemption stickers with the details below:

Cheers Andy,
I appreciate that and look forward to seeing how they reply.
I have been doing a bit of research and have discovered that the acceptable level of NOx to be compliant is anything less than 0.08g/km.
According to an article in Evo magazine:
'There are plenty of seeming anomalies and it’s a bit of fun trying to guess which Euro 3 cars pass ULEZ standards, and which don’t. Using data from 2001 you’ll discover that an Aston Martin DB7 Vantage is fine to drive through London, but a 1.7-litre Ford Puma isn’t. Ferrari 360 Modena? Yes, that’s fine, but a 996 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 isn’t… unless it’s a Tiptronic, in which case it’s OK.'

My car is a 1998 C2 Tiptronic so I may be lucky.

You shouldn’t need to contact Germany yourself.
The first line of text on the form I was sent on 15th Feb 2023 stated "This product is complementary to Porsche owners” which implies there is no fee.

I'm pasting a copy of the mail I rec’d from contact@porsche.co.uk in Reading after I phoned to enquire, there was no mention of a fee, so unless things have changed in the last few weeks You should be fine to just scan & return your completed form. If in doubt try emailing the address above.

"Dear Sir/Madam

Thank you for your interest in a Certificate of Conformity.

Please find the form attached. Full details of the documents are detailed on the form.

Please note Certificates of Conformity are only available for EU specification vehicles built after 1997.

Once completed with all details, the form can be
  • scanned and emailed back to us,
  • or printed and posted to the address as below.
Please allow 28 days for processing.

Please note that as the UK Importer of Porsche vehicles, Porsche Cars Great Britain, is only in a position to supply Certificates of Conformity to UK customers directly. If you reside outside the UK we recommend that you contact Porsche in the country of your residence for assistance.”

Thanks Spike
I will try again with this and thanks for posting, hopefully this will be of use to fellow members.
Regards Andy

Hi all,
I followed Spikes tip and emailed Reading myself.
I received a reply with the certificate of Conformity order form within 10 minutes of sending the email.
I have completed it and sent the information back to them.
I will keep you posted on how I get on.
Thanks once again

Same here.

Hi all ,

I too followed Spike's advice and sent the required docs to the Porsche Reading email address on Saturday. Reply came back from Emily this afternoon saying she had forwarded it to Porsche Germany for the CoC to be forwarded and give it up to 28 days for a response. No mention of a charge either.

Proof of the pudding etc...
