1 Set of rear lights not working

However given it affects most of the lights in that cluster I'd guess it'll be the earth connection, but I can't picture where that attaches to the shell till I have a look at my car tonight (I'm sure someone else can help in the mean time). These lights often get very damp and rusty, and this only has to happen to one part of the earth connection to stop them all working.

I've not looked at the wiring on these for ages, but ideally you want to get a multimeter (can often be bought for a fiver) onto the connector and see if there's any voltage there when the lights should be on.

Does it have a separate earth?
I'm thinking about it but am stumped!

Don't have the wiring diagram with me today, but maybe it earths through the switch on the gearbox? i.e. the switch is in the earth side of the circuit instead of the feed, because the switch is fitted to a handy earth - the gearbox.
EDIT: Just found a diagram, and no, it looks like the reversing light is on the same earth as the rest of the cluster, so think again. Hmmmm. Maybe just the loom connection to the cluster got wet / bashed? You'll need to pull the carpet out and get in there with a meter, as Peter suggested. Good luck!

But why is the reversing light still working?
