6,000 mile report

I've now covered a little over 6,000 miles and am averaging around 1,000 miles per month. The Cayman S is exposed to the elements and has been battered by the recent deluge of rain and wind. No leaks whatsover.

The brakes have started to squeal very slightly but this is hardly noticeable. I'll keep an eye on them over the next few weeks and have them looked at by an OPC is they continue to squeal.

Other than that, no issues whatsoever. The engine now growls with a deep bass tone when it is started. Moving off, the engine pulls eagerly and the deep, rich bass tones transform into a harmony resulting in a ratcheting crescendo at peak revs.

On motorway journeys, I find myself just planting the accelerator briefly just to hear the engine growl! I reckon the engine won't be completely loosened up until around 20K miles but I simply find it hard to imagine that it could sound any better. The sweet, rich, incisive, powerful notes from the engine are overpowering and do overpower the Bose sound system most of the time!

The exterior paintwork is virtually unmarked. The interior is still like new. There is a privacy screen separating the two loading areas in the rear hatch. I detached it and reattached it properly and the rattle from the rear is all but gone now.

The car feels solid - almost like it had been built from a solid lump of metal. In fact, driving on the motorway in a gale with driving rain, I felt safer in the Cayman S than my previous BMW 530i. Such is the sure-footed nature of the car that I have hardly ever had any cause for concern whilst driving over the last 6 months. There have been just one or two instances in which the engine has failed to start on the first attempt but they have not been a cause for concern.

I check the tyre pressures regularly and have had to adjust the pressures as the ambient temperatures have fallen recently. Trying to think of faults/niggles/concerns, I would say that the handbrake is very weak. It sounds very cheap and tinny when applied and needs to be pulled up quite hard in order to lock the rear wheels. It's been like this from day one. Again, i'll keep an eye on this over the next few weeks.

In summary, the Cayman S is simply the best thing that I have ever bought!
