944 2.5 restoration project.

Hi i've gone and took the plunge and got myself an Ebay 944 2.5 n/a.
She's been sat for 5 years and tbh is in a pretty rough state, no pass window or motor, pass door handle, only 3 alloys and a space saver, no battery.
So far got the window, battery, door handle and a service kit coming.
Paid £450 for her and plan to take her on the scally rally 2010 mille miglia rally in June, so have a fair bit of work as she isn't running at the moment.
Quick question about ht leads and dizzy cap, do the 2.5 turbo ones fit and work on the n/a?
How hard is it to fit the window motor and regulator?
Got some Cayenne alloys coming next week but need the spacers to fit them.
All in all have 5 months from now to get her running and mot'd

Cayenne alloys are cheap (about £135 for 4x 17"), but the offset is such that youll even need spacers on a late car. Id stick to 15"s id I were you. The regulator and window is easy to fit: after a bit of trial and error youll see how. Id buy new ignition parts: they arent particularly expensive from ECP.

My thumbnail shows me making friends with Stuttgarts finest on the 2007 Scumball3000.

I had explained the offset here, but Ive deleted it because it was too convoluted (convoluted because the offset required changes with the rim width an the official offset only applies to 7" rims). If you want to post the offset in millimetres (off the wheel rim prefixed ET) and the rim width, then I will tell you what width spacers you need, and probably where is best/cheapest to buy them from.

I wish you well, but I think that youve paid 2x what the car is worth.
Oh great thanks for that, if you can find one for £225 be my guest I couldn't.

True, but the car that I bought for Scumball3000 II cost £475. It had a new steering rack and fuel tank; had been looked after by the indy it came from and was known to have been maintained. All it needed for its first MOT was a small but tricky plate weld repair around the anti-roll bar mount at the front. When we got back I kept it because it was too good to sell: and found myself back in the fold.

My idea of value doesnt often seem to be in line with other members here though...

I would never critisise anyone for sorting out a 'dead' 944 and didnt want to post and sound critical. 'But' I do always wonder why anyone buys a 500 quid 944 that needs such work when you really can (sadly) buy a quite nice older 2.5 all sorted for about 1000.

On a more positive note , ! I am envious , i had never even seen that event until I caught it on Men & motors or similar a few months ago. What a fantastic idea ? , I assume there is a price limit on the purchase and doing up of the car to keep the spirit of the event ?.

I'm off to look it up on google now , and 944 man you need to dig us out some pics or diary entres , I had no idea you had been :p

Googled 500 quid limit thought as much , what a memory that trip will be !

Cheers Mas

looking at the Ebay ad there doesn't seem much left to do; [:D]
90% complete and no rattles and bangs from the engine.... or is that because the engine didn't actually make any noise at all??? I love optimistic sellers! Good luck sound like an excelent adventure

The wheels themselves should fit if the spacers are right but be very careful if the tyres are for a Cayenne. They will have a very high profile which wheel make the overall diameter about 4 inches more than a 944 tyre (it will also make your speedo under read by about 15% too)

Scumball3000 II was shown on M&M a couple of months ago. The 2008 rally is due to be shown soon, I think. I was disappointed that you hardly saw me in the TV edited version and I hope that you dont see me in the unedited DVD! I didnt pay a deal of attention to the cameras in 2008, so Ive no idea if Im in it.

I dont know which year the one I saw on M&M was and if I remember they didnt even say but there was defo no 944 as I'd have been jumping up and down if there had been as you can imagine [8D] . I remember some 'nurses' ( as you would) and various folk in fancy dress but thats about it. I also remember some page three type 'presenter' in quotes having a short lift from 3 geeky guys who must have thought it was christmas.

I suspect she was not too short on offers of a lift !

Since im stuk indoors in this sad sad weather , I'm now making it a personal crusade to try and find a porsche even in the background of a you tude clip , if I could find an embarrasing pic of the driver that would of course be a bonus [:D]

There were two 944s and a 924 (the other 944 and the 924 were both sheds though) on Scumball3000 II but none on III. My car had an intermittent ignition problem so I used a 1600cc Felicia instead...

Yeh unfortunately there was a £500 limit hence the £450 purchase rather than £1000+ better cond one.
Got the pass window and door handle ready to fit but having a look there doesn't seem to be the scissor mech and motor, seller is going to have another look see if he can find them.
Thanks for the advice new to Porsche's so will take all advice and piss take you can throw.[:D]

Like I said , I am envious and far from critical , I have just seem some lovely 944's for a thousand which is sad. From the web clips I have seen the lmit used to be a thousand , I assume they lowered it as folks were taking th mick with what they had alledgedly bought for 1,000. Presumably it has to rely on trust anyway and you could easily buy a 944 off of someone for 499 and the wheels for 500 :p
Not exactly within the spirit of things but it does say you can spend as much on repairs and mods as you like hehehe

As an aside 944 man i may have found a still pic of the rear of a light colured 944 going through soem kind of secirity or border gate on a you tube clip

one minute 16 in to this clip looks like a 944 rear to me [8D] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAYchbhtnUw

Scumball3000 has always been £500. Scumball' tried to steal the name and their limit was £1000. They also had sex with goats: I have proof.

Ahhhh ! , you mean there are two event organisers ? , I assume the 500 quid one is the one I saw on M+M . Personally I think 1,000 is a good limit. I'm not so keen on the bangers idea so much as just keep it for normal folk with normal cars as opposed to rich folk who have plenty of events.
A thou seems fair but I have a feeling you're about to disagree with me [;)]

Trailer for Scumball3000 2 is on YouTube. The second DVD, for Scumball3000 III is out soon, think.
