944 slight drive in neutral when on ramp

I put my 944 on ramps today after experiencing rear end whine in nuetral.

When i lifted it off the floor the rear wheels started to rotate in nuetral.

A hand was all that was needed to stop them and then they would start again.

Could this be shifter adjustment on top of box or is it more serious?

any help would be appreciated.

Yes quite normal, I was told its the oil being moved by the idling input shaft draging the output shaft gears round. Not sure I believe the explaination, but something does it!

Quite normal. I had always assumed it was due to slight clutch drag, but thinking about it then it can't be - the clutch will be engaged but the gearbox will be in neutral.

I'll go with Mike's explanation. Or possibly some slight drag in the synchromesh cones. Or possibly both together - the thick gearbox oil will cause enough drag in the synchromesh cones to exert a slight torque across them, and hence out to the wheels.

Either way it's normal and nothing to worry about.

Its already been said but that is 100% totally normal, was the same when I was working on 924S (same running gear)

Nothing to worry about [;)]

Yes this is normal, jack up any manual car so the driven wheels are off the ground, start the engine and the driven wheels will start to move slowly.

My Morris Minors all do this too.
