944s Ventiller

Hah I didn't know that's why it was called the Ventiler. Yes I think they all had that written on the short strip behind the front wheel. I once saw a turbo with those side strips, now that is odd!

Congratulations on your discovery, you are now the proud owner of one of the rarer 944 marques and as such you can thumb your nose at all those common S2 and Turbo owners, safe in the knowledge that you are :

a) driving a limited edition
b) less likely to suffer from sill rot due to not having the plastic strip along the botton of the wings/door.

You may note some negative comments from aforesaid owners attempting to justify their own purchases, but it is simple envy.

I suggest you assume a slightly smug smile (and keep it between 4000 and 6500 rpm ) [:D]

Howard - 'S' owner and proud of it [;)]

(PS Along with the ventiller strips there should also be an 'S' just under the 944 badge )

Fair enough - do all the s models have ventiller badges then?

It was a stupidly expensive cost option for 944S models. The cars proper model name is Porsche 944S.

And of course unless someone has gone to the trouble of 'faking it' , looking at the top of the airbox is a rather easy way to tell :p.

Re the turbo owners etc , I know it was a light hearted jape :p , but although I have had 2 turbos and am still a great admirer of the Ventiller. I would have no problem owning one as a 'show car' if I came accross a good one cheep. I havn't driven a ventiller but would definately like to.

Cheers

Mas

Someone told me today that mine is a 944 Ventiller - what the hell is a ventiller?

Check out if it's a 16V version or just badged as such. If it is, you'll be wanting to take a look at the cam chain and plastic "slipper", if there's no evidence of them being done in the recent history. The chain can stretch, causing cam sprocket wear, and the plastic guides become brittle and can fail.

Checking it out, and replacing as necessary, is often missed as it wasn't part of the service schedule.

I did a car tax check on my old '88S reg E345 AUX (using the Vehicle enquiry website) and it shows date of liability as 01/01/2010, which I guess means there's a good chance that it's dead. [:(]

You should have said that before you sold your Turbo, I could have saved you the hassle of selling my simply swapping mine for yours [:D]

Its says ventiller on the top of the airbox - I take it that is what you meant??

Yes they do, that and on the door strips as said before is the only place i have noticed it written on mine.

there was a limited edition issued with decals and 16 valve 2.7 engine.
It had the side decals but another identifying feature was they all had split rear seats as standard.
If you do a search for ventilier you'll find an in depth discussion with pictures some time last year.

There is a 944 book by Edwards with some pictures and spec . If you can't find the thread pm me and I'll scan the book article for you.

I take it if the cam timing chain stretches it isnt perfectly timed anymore? Dumb question i am sure but engines aren't my forte.
