All going so well-car just died.

Had the auto electrician take a look today and he did the full wiring check and all the signals into the ecu are correct the ecu has some water damage over the years but the signal coming out is there but very weak and intermittent. One question is i've taken all the screws out of the board but she doesn't flip over as I expected something seems to be stopping it has anyone stripped on down before?
Already emailed my parts supplier Suleruk for an ecru and i'm watching one on Ebay.

jeezus Wayne you shouldn't be screwing with the ECU, even static electricity from your body can screw some of the chips on those boards if you touch them . The two boards are also very tricky to prize apart as the plastic pillars are very strong. It would be very easy to trash the pcb's

I would concentrate on getting your earths cleaned up first . Until you do that a new ECU isn't likely to help much.
 
Did the earth was pretty easy tbh used work crimps and screws much better now did away with all the scotch locks too.

Got all the earthing gear to work on a board and she came apart really easy when I took a screw out that I had missed and the rubber bung post thing just pulls apart. Had a quick look inside for any dry joint or lose eproms but all looks pretty good but looks pretty wet in there and it looks as if it was parked up on the tilt for a few years due to the level of water ingress at an angle.
 
well done with the earths. It lookslike the earth to the lights and horns .
Have you looked at the earth strap between the engine and the firewall? it should be at the top just under the cam cover at the back.
The other important earths are MPll & MPlll on the top chassis rail in front of the battery (early cars ) which ground the ECU and DME

If you place the ECU pcb's flat on a flat surface you can press the chips in firmly with your thumb.
My ECU shows moisture damage and I suspect it is due to condensation although yours may be a blocked drain under your battery tray

Cheers, to find the fault with the ecu I had to rule out everything else but learnt a fair bit and actually enjoyed it when after ruling everything out one by one finding it was the ecu at fault was kind of a relief but thanks will I didn't ignore your advice fair from it.
