Took the old girl along for its first MOT under my ownership today. Its been a few years since I last had to undergo the nerve wracking experience and so wasn't looking forward to it at all.

The result - Pass [:D]

Only advisary- very slight corrosion on rear offside brake pipe

Needless to say I am a very happy bunny [:D]

Nice one!
I have my first on Monday, and after lashing out over £450 just to sort the emissions on my 2001 SAAB late last year (and then selling the car for £750[]) I am a little worried about the bill, especially as it is having a service and the belts done at the same time...

My Wife is telling me it has to come off the flying budget[:(]

First one in my ownership came up two weeks ago, failed on brakes not balanced. To sort it meant new calipers, hoses and pads on the front, new springs and shoes on the rear. Plus labour inc MOT it came to £660. About £5k spent on it in the last year now.

However it has got rid of some clunks and other noises when I now brake so I'm gradually getting the old girl ready for the S2 engine replacement !

Had mine last week, failed on "Parking brake inefficient".

A couple of squirts of penetrating fluid into the parking brake mechanism and then adjusting according to Clarks Garage and a Pass !

.....However I noticed the rear brake pads were worn beyond the wear sensors (which are still intact!) and also discs looking a bit poorly, so thats a job for the weekend !

I've taken my old girl through five now. The first failed on corroded brake pipe (rear offside), cost £60. Passed with flying colours ever since.

Well my old girl passed first time!
There are a couple of advisories that I will find out about when I pick it up at lunchtime.

Phew!

Phew!

Where did you take it for the MOT ?.

I took it to TWG Motorsport in Peterborough for a Service, Mot and Cambelts, it passed it's MoT with advisories on my front ARB bushes, so nothing too dramatic, they also pointed out a couple of very minor oil leaks, which I will take a look at, but again not serious enough to be visible as drops on the drive.

The total cost came to a whisker over £500, so not bad for a 21 year old car, especially compared to just doing an MoT on my old SAAB (£450 +test fee) and service & cambelt on my Wife's old Alfa 156 (£1200, £400 for the MoT).
Also got an indication of how much sorting the 4 rust patches out would be, so will try and get that done before the winter.

Well, time for another update.

Passed again ! [:D]

Advisory this time - slightly weak front shocks (which my Indy had already advised me about) - no mention of corrosion on the brake pipes- isn't waxoyl great stuff [;)]

The brake pipes for the rear wheels are nice and easy to replace anyway (providing it's the part that goes from the flexi to the caliper at least).

If you do fancy tackling it and need a hand give me a shout as I've replaced all of my pipes now and have the tools to do so..
