Anyone know this 944T Race Car?

My car is a road car modified for racing, nothing wrong with that, anyway trying to find a non sunroof shell for a 944 is probably very expensive. Race cars built from scratch would demand more money and are very rare.

One certainly doesn't need a non sunroof shell but if you want to win in something like the PCGB championship you will be needing a car built from scratch to be race car, preferably on a dipped back to metal body shell. They are also not that rare, a great proportion of the cars to come out of EMC are made this way, my 944 S2 and Lali's 968 as 2 examples.

They are definitely worth a lot more money and for good reason. £12K to £15K for a fairly fresh S2, less for one that has been 'used' or in less than puka condition, £15K+ for a 968. If anything the 968's are probably the best value for money for a car such as Adrian Stocks one that could be a club championship class 1 winning car.
 
Apologies for not getting back to you all, having asked the original question but I have been away with work in Scotland.

Lots of good advice, as I expected. I'm torn as I really want a 944 to race in CSCC "Future Classics" but I don't want to sell my existing (ex works) Toyota (far too good a car) that I race in the sister "Tin Tops" series. This one does look scruffy (not that I expect a race car to be smart) & lali's comments are interesting. I'm also concerned by the cage as my current & last 2 cars have had cages that were "works of art" & I am used to that both for safety reasons and as a platform for the rest of the car. I'm not too keen on a cage that looks just like its a welded in version of an SD bolt in jobby.

Lots to think about & I'm not really expert enough to view without help!
 
All this is good advice but I would have thought that if you were buying a second hand race car that had actually been raced wouldn't you want to tear it apart just to make sure everything is tickety boo? Surely you wouldn't just jump in it and race?

The engine has only 2kmiles on it since it was rebuilt but that doesn't sound alot assuming that not all of those 2000 miles are full on racing mode and that the engine is not exactly in a high state of tune (the HP claims in the advert are ridiculous). These engines are pretty bulletproof and running a Promax L2 kit you're not going to be pushing the engine too hard.

Subject to everything looking OK upon viewing I think this could be a cracking project for someone looking for a half decent car to go racing in. Like Lali says, it already has alot of decent kit installed.
 
The beaten up old 200sx drift cars you often see at Silverstone the epitomy of this kind of cool. Pure toned muscle under a farm workers jumper. I love that understatement as much as I love a tidy well polished classic that hides modern components and a well tweaked engine.

If you like old cars with modern mechanicals then get yerself to the Retro Cars show at Santa Pod in July............

Beetle microbuses with Porsche Biturbo motors.......................Frogeye Sprites with `Busa engines.......................Mk 2 Escorts with Cossie Turbo engines................not chav at all, serious enthusiasts cars.

p.s. overall the 2.0 16v or 1.8t are probably the best engines for the mk1 but have you ever been in one with a VR6 motor installed? As we exited the first corner alive at a speed I wouldn't have attempted in my mk2 kn its kw coilovers all the myths about front heavy handling were instantly dispelled. Plus fitting the engine in a car that light finally gave it the performance to match the beautiful sound of the 2.9 unit. I absolutely loved it. What a rush.

I have seen VR6 engined Golfs on the go and been in 1.8T and ABF turbo`d golf`s and they are awesome. I havent driven mine in anger on a track yet so looking forward to it. It always takes sooooo much longer than anticipated when building a car and it doesnt help when you only have a few hours a week [&o]

Ho hum, back to the garage...............
