at long last...

Hello and welcome, Is it an oval dash ? If so I will pre-empt your first question. The trip reset button is in the middle part of the right hand air vent, to the left of the binnacle. Push it [:D]

Dont be afraid to ask questions, there are some very knowledgeable folk here. Howard

Thanks Howard, I was wondering that, but hadn't yet found it in the owners manual. I'll try to post photos tomorrow.

Welcome! There's loads going on over the next few months, keep an eye on the "events" sticky. Reading is right in the Club's Thames Valley region, there are loads of 944 owners around who regularly meet up.

After many many years of wanting one I've finally become a Porsche owner!

I've picked up a 1986 944. I'm sure I'll have loads of questions as I find out all the things that need to be sorted. For the moment I'm quite happy, had a nice 30 mile drive back to Reading. About half of those miles I usually seemed to have someone in a big Audi or Merc sat 2 inches of my back bumper, but apart from that it was a good drive. Goes pretty much how I expected, not rocket-ship fast but pretty good at covering ground. Much more comfortable that I'd expected. I think I'm going to like this!

Looking forward to getting to meet you guys at club events soon.

Having sorted through all the receipts and history that came with the car, I've come to the conclusion that I'd feel more comfortable having the belts done. Done about 20k miles ago, but that was around four years. Does anyone have any recommendations as to where to have this done? I'm in Reading, so Northway is fairly close. I was also wondering about Jon Mitchell's Garage. Any other suggestions? I've mentally budgeted between £1-1.5k this year to get the things done that need to be sorted. Is that realistic? too high? too low?

Northways will certainly be the closest Indy to you and Ray has a good reputation. Jon Mitchell also has a very good reputation and it's where I take my own Turbo (and I'm up in Northampton []). Also close to you is RSJ at Slough , their mechanic is very experienced in 944/968 http://www.rsjsportscars.co.uk/

Great choice, and remeber those cars perform better over 3.5k, and for a 20+ year old car you can't go wrong IMP [:D] Howard, great choice of 1st advise lol Oh and nice to see the interior of a Celebration model, don't see many of those interiors [;)]

I bought my 89 2.7 Lux in March and have been very pleased with it - a great "Old Skool" drive. I'm a Newbie too then and have found the other forum members very friendly and helpful. Wasn't aware of Northway or Jon Mitchell so now know where to look more locally. From the photo, car looks a good 'un. Have fun. I'm in Warfield so if you see a very shiny G reg lashing up and down the A329, that'll be me! ATJ

I got an oval dash 86 turbo also, there are a few bits and pieces unique to this year (mostly to do with brakes and suspension) but guys on here will keep you right, I love mine and you will find yourself getting very attached to yours before you know it, even when they occasionally spit the dummy, enjoy!

ORIGINAL: sc0tty The rear wiper is not parked correctly is it?
No. Mine did this in the winter, I pushed the button before it was fully defrosted and there was a little "crack". Now the wiper is adjustable to any position by hand, but it works fine from the correct vertical position.

Ian and Jonesy - quite a few of us in Thames Valley use Simon at Hillcrest in Nettlebed for our servicing and repairs. Good chap and fair prices but a bit of a pain in the butt to get hold of at times! A little patience is required but worth it in the end...
