Sometimes if the mood takes me i flash at drivers of Boxsters and Caymans to remind them of where the brand heritage lies, no malice intended i'm just easily amused. Now every morning a nice bloke in a Boxster Cab waves at me as we pass eachother, he's obviously an enthusiast saying hello but i feel so dirty, he's had the good manners to respond to my sarcastic gesture with one of good will and greeting...i feel like such a fraud![]

When I got my 944 at the start of the year I quickly found that no-one in a 996 or 997 even recognises it as a Porsche. I'm a 'waver' rather than a 'flasher' - oo-er, sounds a bit rude - but I often get an acknowledgement from drivers of a 3.2 Carrera or earlier 911, or a Mark I Boxster. I imagine a lot of current Mark I Boxster drivers may well be folk who had a 944 previously.

Good. [:D][:D][:D]

I gave up flashing newer cars, there are just so many around here that it's a pain. I always flash older models, they must wonder why the bloke in the turquoise van is flashing them. They probably slow down expecting speed traps, or stop and look for something falling off their car. [&:]

Funny how it's the done thing for some cars and not for others of similar character Digging into my slightly tawdry and now rather distant youth, it is clearly the done thing amongst drivers of the early (SE5 and SE5a) Relaint Scimitar GTE, and the Mark II Escort RS2000, but not done amongst Manta-men.

Once or twice I have had to actively restrain myself when in the BMW and seeing a 944 coming the other way. Don't want to cause confusion.

... bloke in the turquoise van ...
Crumbs McNulters. You've mentioned your van on here before, but never the fact that it's turquoise!

We need photos. A turquoise van must be good for a giggle!

Maybe he's bigging it up and it's White really [:D]
That's a lot of 'bigging up'. I mean you can pretend a tub of good marge is actually butter, and you can almost pretend that a decent sparking white is champagne. But pretending that a white van is actually turquoise ...

We definitely need photos.

I've heard that if you leave a white vehicle outside unwashed for long enough it starts to turn a mouldy green colour on its own.

I often find that I can't see the drivers of older 911s, I think the near verticle rake of the windscreen combined with a sunny day makes it impossible to see through the screen. So now flash (ooh er) rather than wave as it is more obvious.

I only flash 993s and earlier though.

Having said that I flashed another 944 the other day and got ignored []

If I spot one I will always flash and then wave at another porsche no matter what model it is. More often than not I will get a wave back. I think we all should do it, no snobbery here

Happy to oblige. This is before signwriting, and four years on it's not quite so shiny and dent-free. []

I wave at older Porsches as well, I was once waved at by a Black 930 in amazing condition just near where I live, I was so busy looking at the car I forgot to wave back.
I shared a wavewith the driver of a 944 Turbo that passed me on the M40 with my GF in the car, she thought I was crazy - "shall I start waving at people in Astra's???" she said laughing at me. It annoyed the hell out of me that she Just. Didn't. Get. It.

I had one of those vans for a while but in silver. Very reliable used no oil and had two batteries. However it had to be the most wallowy thing in the world, it made the 944 feel like a go-cart and a rocket ship. put 100k on it in 3 years without issue but it go sideways well.

Hmmmm. I can see why it's such a pleasure to go for a blast in your pretty S2!

Oli.

Actually the van is a blast to drive. RWD, very torquey engine and it's rarely got much weight in it. Sideways fun all the time at nice safe speeds. Bit like a Lux, in fact. [8|]

And, are you saying it's not pretty? I swapped a rusty old white transit for it, so it's a huge improvement lol!

There's a C plate Turbo just down the road from me and strangley the guy never waved when I had the '24S but has twcie since I bought the '44 lol

Was snubbed by a 928 last weekend up near Alnwick, but have to admit I never bother with anything newer than a 993, inc the brother in law in his 996 C4[:'(]

Nice little run up from Northallerton through Barnard's Castle and on up Teesdale today. Was ignored by a very low and purposeful-looking 996 GT2 - I have never actually seen one of those on the road before - but acknowledged by a nice normally-aspirated 996 C2, and also by a cheery fellow in a bright red Aston DB5. Much as I love by 944 Turbo I would have swapped for the DB5, even though it is the slowest colour.
