Menu toggle

clunky acceleration and lift off

Paul,

You often quote the 5 hour figure for a clutch change and I don't want to argue but is it really possible in that time? It sounds awfully quick, given the amount of work necessary. I'd love to watch it being done in that time; it would be quite a spectacle!

It was the mobile indie I used to use, until he retired off to the IOW, who used to allow 5 hours at the roadside. He did Andy Mays' in that time, it did cause some discussion about the amount some places were charging at the time.

I can't see why, particularly with nice shiny workshop, it would take any longer unless there were other problems. Ken had been working on the cars since they were new, so I guess after the hundreds he'd changed he knew his way around the job blindfold.

The current trend towards "menu" pricing is something I haven't made my mind up about yet. It looks as though it's priced to assume things taking the longest time possible in some cases. How long would you professionals allow?

My Indie changed the clutch on my Lux 2.5 a couple of years ago ,in about 6 hours (although he had a job bleeding the coolant system). He decided to remove the engine instead of the gearbox and torque tube . I think he charged me £390 + vat excl parts . Bet he charges more than £65 phr now [;)]
