hi guys thinking of doing this as never really use the rear wiper the hatch glass just never sems to get dirty and even when it rains streams off so thought it might just tidy up the lines some. obviously all you track guys do it but does anyone whos done it do their daily miss the wiper? and how did you block the hole off?

Iirc promax or porscheshop sell a 2 piece wiper delete bung that screws in and looks oem.

Did mine but only because it was missing it read wiper when I bought it, 17mm grommet for 79p from the local motor factors. [:D]

Looking to replace mine though, just need to wait for spare cash to buy one with a bolt on plate

thanks for that, great pic too. so do you guys not miss it at all? never looked back once you had got rid?

Rear wiper was alway pretty much useless and still on the wrong side for a RHD car, as I say prefer to have it but its no real loss not having one

The only time I really use mine is when the car has been sat and its been raining, it clears of most of the standing water so you can see better, I've also used it in slow traffic when its raining but a most other times the rain doesnt really collect there.

Having said that if the car already has it, whats the gain in removing it? Not sure how much it tidies up the lines. If you find its useless just dont use it...

Hi,

Just to throw my penny's worth in. I removed my rear wiper as the car is mostly used for track days where the full boot space to and from the track is valuable for squeezing spare wheels in.

On a daily basis, the main use for the wiper is clearing overnight dew from the rear screen - but could easily be done manually !

The only drawback I've found is that since removing the rear wiper - easy job to do and not complex, is that the rear demist doesn't work anymore. I haven't looked at the wiring diagram but can only conclude that the rear demist and wiper are linked.

I've removed the rear wiper on all three 944s that I've owned, which have all been daily drivers. I've never missed the wiper at all (and I live in Glasgow, where it rains a lot!)

My rear demister works just fine; I've left all the wiring in place and just unplugged the wiper motor. The wire and plug are easily hidden with a little black electrical tape and keeping them in place means I can pop the wiper back on in minutes if I ever feel the need.

I bought the Promax bung (three times now "¦) because I'm usually ordering something else from them at the same time, but the exact same item is available for a fiver less from John Mitchell.

No point looking back, can't see anything through the rain without it!

Used my rear wiper extensively yesterday, when it rained heavily.

I wouldn't be without it. But each to their own.

I always used the rear wiper on the S2 also, and would not have considered removing it.

I did replace the stupidly small (21"?) wiper with a 24" blade however. The extra length compensates for the LHD setup and makes it surprisingly more useable, without looking stupidly big. IMHO.

But we do offer free shipping!

Get shot of surplus weight, cleans the lines at the rear, use RainX on the glass and let the wind blow the rain clear at 30mph

hatch leaps open without the heavy motor - rainx keeps the window clear - not missed mine either.

my wiper blade and motor was knackered so i temporarily removed the arm incase they checked it on MOT, it does look much better.

Might have to get a bung and use the rain x. It's a lot of money for just an alloy bung. Is it easy to remove the motor peeps?

The motor comes off really easily. The black plastic cover just pops off, and the whole assembly is only fixed on by the main bolt through the glass. Undo that and the pins holding the rear end in position just slide away from the hatch frame.

Rain-X is great, especially on the front screen on my old '83, they all had l/h parking wipers, but I like my rear wiper as my car lives outside and I'm lazy!

Though i've found that rain x can make your wiper blades judder or skip - not sure if it is a case of a defective person applying the stuff though. But I find I hardly ever needed to use the wipers at all with rain x as long as you were on the move. Any water that settles on the screen forms very small globules that you can easily see past so don't obscure your vision or produce any glare effects at night. So I found I only ever used the wipers under reasonably heavy constant rain. Good stuff.
