Front suspension 987 gen 1 control arm help

I have had a quiet grumbling knocking noise on the passenger side front end at slow speeds for some time now <20 mph and only on small bumps and cobbles, larger holes at higher speed everything is fine.

The track rod ends have already be replaced by a garage so I decided to replace the control arm, tuning fork and drop links.

The tuning fork is off, as too is the drop link. The parts are worn, on the car they looks fine though, so expect it will cure my knocking.

The coffin arm/ control arm is stuck....no matter how many hits I have given it with my rubber mallet no joy. I will purchase a ball joint splitter tomorrow to see if that helps.

One thing that looks tricky is the inner bolt that controls the alignment, the nut is loose but again no matter how hard I hit it with my mallet it will not push through, is there a technique or washer i need to remove? I have looked online but I can't see any how to guides specifically about removing that part.

Regards,
paul

Hi,
I replaced both sides after being driven mad by the constant, embarrassing, squeaking sound. I found by separating the ball joint first, using a fork type tool, the inner bolt comes out easily.
Dont forget to preload the arm as you tighten the inner bolt.
I found torque settings on an American forum. Can't remember so good hunting.
I found it impossible to use a torque wrench on the inner bolt so used judgement when I tightened. I also used locktight on all the fixings.
Hope this is of use
Cheers
Dave

I would split the ball joint end first.
Use a splitter or try loading the strut with a jack (compress the strut) and loosen the Ball joint nut and sharp taps may loosen the BJ taper. Once loosened then tackle the inner bolt.
Will the head of the bolt rotate at present?
