Great fibs to tell new 944 owners

Chaps,

There are some topics that seem to come up on here very often, which are of concern to new owners until they learn a little more about the cars. They are all genuine questions, but it occurs to me that we could quite easily make a list of favourite fibs to tell new 944 owners - some of them serious, some of them more lighthearted. I'll start, please do chip in below ....

1. 944's are completely symmetrical from the factory. If your 944 has differences in the rear wheelarches it has been badly damaged and poorly repaired.

2. The fan in the dash shouldn't run all the time. If it does, it's broken.

3. 944's never rust, ever, as they were galvanised from the factory. Any rust means another badly done repair.

4. It's impossible to reset the trip counter in the dashboard without visiting your OPC.

5. Turbo's are better cars than S2's and need less maintenance too.

6. Sunroof gears shouldn't strip and are both expensive and difficult to replace.

7. Brembo four-pot calipers are no more hassle than the sliding-frame type.

8. DME relays never cause any trouble at all. Their huge reliability is a good thing as they are even harder and more expensive to replace than the sunroof gears.

OK, over to you guys ....

The Abs is virtually fault free even at 20 years old. Any faults however are very easy to trace and fix.

9. Owners of 944s are always regarded as the poor relations among the Porsche fraternity.....

That could be a great fib to tell new 994 owners, but this thread is about new 944 owners. Please try and keep it on topic! [;)]

Buying a 944 will be the best investment you will ever make. They are practically maintenance free and it will cost only pennies every year to keep it on the road. You are bound to get back far more than you have put into it when you eventually sell.

The 944 Turbo engine installation is beautifully engineered and makes access for maintenance and repairs very simple.

Yes, but I quoted your post before you edited it so it still counts! >BlowsRaspberry< [:'(]

Your classic Porsche will never be mistaken for a generic 1990s Japanese coupe.
If a 944 looks good on the surface you can bet it's fit and healthy in all mechanical aspects
Changing a clutch is a ÂŁ199 job at any Kwik-Fit
The 944 S2 can easily keep up with a modern two litre diesel hatch.

just testing

2 minutes and 14 seconds to get that confirmed, not bad I suppose

OK, 944's are totally leak proof [:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

that better?

The rear hatch struts are only supposed to help the hatch pop open. You have to lift it yourself after that.

The bridge spoiler fitted to later models is actually a handle. (See above)

Any old engine oil will be just fine. Just go for the cheapest one in Halfords.

Porsche did not redesign the wiper movement from the RHD to the LHD cars because they thought RHD markets deserved to have a leading feature.

Headlights are so efficient you may think you find yourself driving in daylight in the middle of a very foggy night.

It was such a joy to replace the fuel filter on turbos that the factory eventually added a gearbox oil cooler on later models to provide even more fun.
