Hand brake button!

Just dropped the car off at the body shop for the sills, as I pulled the hand brake on the button shot out the end of the handle. I can't see how it is retained in the lever. Had a look at the PET and the manual but I am none the wise.

What holds the button in the end and how do you put it back in?
 
It should screw in - you need to push it whilst screwing it in, as there's the spring behind.

It could have pinged off because the thread is stripped, in which case you'll need a new one. There are machined aluminium buttons available from a few suppliers if you want to make sure that it won't ever strip again.
 
Ta, there appears to be no thread what so ever on the end of the button so that is what has happened. I will get a new one.
