Hi New Poster

O and P are very close, unlike a S2 and a turbo! [:D]
I know. Which is why I am willing to forgive you your spelling mistake!

(Your other mistake ... well, I'm not so sure about that one. [] )

Pascha trim ROCKS !

It's great, but if I had to look at it every day, I would be trying to spot shapes and animals in it like one of them magic eye picture, end up crashing.

Maybe that's why turbos didn't come with it as magic eye pictures and boost don't mix.

If you come to one of the meets organised here I'm pretty confident you could get a ride in all the different models and make your mind up about which one you like. Happy hunting.

My opinions on the different models are posted on one of the FAQs or buyers guide, how-ever, to address the comment about you partner having to drive it some-times and a turbo being a handfull, it is only so if you want it to be so. If we are talking about some-one for which the throttle is an on/off switch, then yes, they could come to grief, many have. How-ever, if it is some-one that will respect the boost, and stay off it when the conditions are not favourable, it is a pussy-cat. It just needs respect... and in the wet, I seriously considered making it possible to switch the over-boost-protection-limiting-thingy on so it wouldn't spool up at the wrong time.

The best move you have made is posting on here, and getting advice before you buy - it pains me the number of people who buy, then come and ask advice, only to find they have bought something we could hear barking before it arrived...

Happy hunting, and rest assured, if you follow the advice around here you'll get a gooden.

Can I echo the above? Be very careful indeed. I bought mine ('91 S2) a year ago for a very good price. But to get it working properly, I've spent nearly double that and there's more to come if I keep it. However, if you look upon it as having been fun to do, then the benefits outweigh the costs (I love the tinkering, parts finding and hand wringing. I know I'm a bit a wierd...) I'd also argue to some extent that I could have bought a car for a few thousand more, but who's to guarantee that none of the things that went wrong with mine would not happen with the more expensive car? I know it's now sound and reliable, I know whats still wrong with it (not that much really but things that niggle me) and I've enjoyed owning it. But if I didn't have some savings to spend on it, then it would have been a miserable experience!

But don't be put off - they are cracking cars and I'm sure you will find a good one, but don't blow all your budget on buying - keep some back for things you might need to do.

I have owned both an S2 and my current Turbo and I would say it depends on what you want to do. The S2 was a great bullet proof car but if you want to increase power you are limited. The Turbo has unlimited upgrades but it gets a bit like gran turismo and you can keep going and gets expensive. Having said that 40 hp gains are easy to get relatively cheaply on a turbo. My wife has no problem with the turbo but I've shown her how to turn the boost down!
