Imported 944

It always worries me when cars are described as "Good condition for the year". Surely it is either in good condition or not.

I personally wouldn't have an issue with an imported car, after all they all have been!

I read it as 'How useful is service book in Japanese' and 'the air con's broken as they mostly are and will probably cost shed loads to fix'....oh and 'the belts, rollers etc will also probably need doing'

I'm obviously a bit cynical, but if I was in the market for one, I think I'd give it a look, but price based on the above.

Shouldn't be any different to buying a UK supplied car, check the option codes from the rear panel sticker or the handbook. Follow all the usual buying tips, you could end up with a very nice car.

It will NOT be "agile" on 18" rims as it will tramline all over the place, they are horrible to drive on this size of rims, check that it is undersealed sufficiently as Japanese cars usually did not have as much potection as UK cars , that said they will generally be in better nick than UK cars but will detiriate faster if not protected.
Front end looks as though it has been painted and they never bothered to take off the front tow eye cover as it should be black, not Cobalt Blue.
Let us know how you get on should you view ?

Forgot to say the steering wheel looks awful especially with the huge nose cone metal badge glued on to it, looks as though the headlamp washers are blanked / deleted

Will it be any different to UK spec ?

I've heard that Japanese cars are often not as well undersealed as UK spec, but if it's a German car I'd guess there'd be very little difference. Certainly less than the different spec of US cars, and there are a few of them happily residing in the UK.

Would there be insurance issues? [8|]

Looks like a nice car from the few pictures, as stated headlight washers deleted and it looks like it has no sunroof which could be a bonus depending on what you want to do with it, I agree about the 18" wheels it will be a pain to drive even if it has 968 castor bushes done.

Not too sure about averageing 30mpg more like 25/26 but close enough I suppose and I cant see why if the aircon only needs re-gassing it hasn't been done not a lot of money so probably will be a more significant issue.

Nice colour and good mileage, price looks about right depending on spec but as mentioned you wouold need to check the rustproofing as it has been in the UK 2 years now and if not already done then the rot bug will be setting in.

As (ex) an importer of Japanese cars myself, Id be interested to know what grade it was. As its RHD Id suspect that it was an official import, but the country code will confirm that (C18 btw).

If its an official import there shouldn't be any import implications on the insurance.

Not long sold a Jap Import Pajero and with a 4x4 specialist there was no difference to the insurance price, plus as you inevitably be insuring it on a classic policy it shouldn't make any difference

`cos they dont have the salty roads in winter like we do so it wont be rusty [;)]

I bought a Jap import L/cruiser for this reason, until the last couple of years it was almost showroom underneath aand even now the chassis/axles etc are still fully painted, when I bought it 6 years ago it WAS showroom and its a 1991 [;)]
