Time to get the spec sorted out with my OPC and I had a fair idea where I wanted to be, price and options wise, with a Configurator sheet carefully printed off.
I must not be tempted by unnecessary bits of kit, I must not be tempted by unnecessary bits of kit. [8D]

Trouble is that the comfortable environs of the Configurator room, a decent coffee, a plausible line in justification from Mr Sales, and the presence of SWMBO meant that matters got ever so slightly out of hand (you might think me a wimp, of course, and have left many indispensable pieces of kit out of the equation).

So currently we are looking at:

Guards Red and black leather
PDK and SportDesign steering wheel (flappy paddles)
Sport Chrono Plus
Sports Exhaust
Sports Seats Plus and heated
20 inch Carrera Classic wheels with coloured wheel centres
Tyre pressure monitoring
Auto mirrors and rain sensor
Power steering plus
Telephone module
Bose surround sound
Cruise control
Electric folding mirrors
ParkAssist rear
Light design package
Rear centre tunnel in leather

And suddenly we're over £93k. [:mad:]


That's leaving out some tasty options too. PDDC sounds good, Burmeister really would sound good, sunroof possibly, but looks a bit odd to me, and then you're over £100k.

So what's the collective opinion? Any thoughts team?

Just be careful on residuals Peter as all these options will be worthless once they leave the factory. This is why I think Porsche need less individual options and more options package models - like the 997 Turbo 'S' - it will be the only way to keep the book list prices up.
 
Also note that 20" wheels means 20" tyres - and in my experience maintaning cars with both 20 and 19; 20s are at least 20% more expensive than 19s, so you will looking at about £1300 to £1600 for new tread every 10k miles :(

No choice Alex, choice of 3 wheel designs but all are 20" on the S. I believe that Michelin have developed a tyre specifically for it.

You're absolutely right of course, but this one's a keeper (I know, I know[&o]) and at the beginning of this model's cycle I thought I'd like to get the car I wanted and to hell with the residuals. Mind you there's a stunning Guards Red GTS just run in on the showroom floor for £67k which puts things into perspective.

Are you sure Peter that when the 991 GT3 or Turbo comes out you aren't going to be straight down the dealer?! I know I will be tempted myself even with my current car (just because the looks are starting to tire, not because I need better handling/more power etc). So is the 991 C2S going to be a classic you can live with forever? I know my old 997.1 C2S Cab wasn't even close to what I have now.

The one thing you do have on your side is you are getting an early model - so in 18 months (from when first cars arrive) the residuals should still be pretty high as demand for 991s will be strong. So from that perspective I say go for it!
 
I say to hell with residuals. If you want it, love it and can afford it then get it - life's too short. My current car is always a "keeper" too - until the next temptation comes along........[&:]
Looks very nice Peter and, of course, the one and only colour choice![:)] That configurator is the devil's own work though..............had to look up what PDCC is all about![:D]

Look on the bright side Peter if you were going for a 458 you would be spending more than twice as much with much higher running costs so this must be a bargain. The initial driving tests I have seen suggest it is going to be a great drive with under steer much reduced so the fun factor should be high

Well I think the sunroof may take a bit of getting used to, it rises above the roof, not slides into it as per normal ones and juts out over the rear screen. The spoiler then adjusts to allow for the changed aerodynamics.

I have a plan on the factory collect. More of a Factory return. Gary's kindly allowing us to join the Kings and Castles trip a month after getting the car. I could have had a December car but have asked for delivery in March for various reasons.

Another consideration is that if you collect from the factory in winter, Porsche fit winter tyres for you. Whether you want them or not.

Great spec Peter, I do like the look of the sunroof, couldn't have one without (apparently [&:] according to my wife)
No sunroof in the 458 and I was onto a loser...... but the spider!!

I am with Clive on the carbon BUT if you are also going to tour in the car and want to while away the motorway miles the Burmeister stereo becoems a must methinks.

I've had Bose in the last three 911's and loved it, but given my hearing is definitely shot from too many rock concerts in my youth, I'm probably the wrong person to have a valid opinion. My son's Cayman has the standard system and I find it a bit lacking in depth. I'm sure the Burmester is brilliant but I won't spend £3k on my home system...
