My Turbo is for sale - sniff sniff!

Panzer944

New member
The time has come ... sadly, my personal circumstances have changed such that I cannot justify running two 944s and whilst this magnificent example of a 951 never fails to put a smile on my face it makes sense to let this one go and keep the Lux.

This car is the ex-Nick Appleton car known to many of you and it was the car I brought along to the Rutland Water unnofficial Meet/TyreKick/PubLunch. I have use Nick's original sales pitch and updated it as appropriate. The mileage when I bought it in July 2009 was 137K and it is now on 142K (mainly due to an annual 5,000 mile limit with my insurer) - it is still in the same condition as it was when I bought it off Nick and has been garaged since and nver raced or rallied or trackdayed ... however, it has - of course - been driven spiritedly!

I have not decided on a price - I do not expect to get what I paid for it (£8K); however, I think £7K is a fair price (last service alone was £800) and I may take an offer (very) close to this. Whilst I do need to sell this car - I am not going to sell it "for sweeties" as my brother would put it ... and I can (may have to!) wait for a sale.

It will be advertised with the 'usual suspects' ... but, as I bought it through the pages of this forum, I wanted to give you guys first dibs.

Within the last 2 years, it has had lower front wings and sills stripped, repaired as required and repainted with stonechip etc. The windscreen was removed to repair slight bubbling under the rubber trim on the leading edge of the roof and the roof and sunroof panel were then repainted in entirety.

Just before I bought it, Nick had the headlamp covers and the front badge panel stripped and repainted to remove the stonechipping. The results are a very clean, smart and shiny red (ie not pink!) 944 Turbo that has none of the endemic rust issues now affecting many of these cars.

Mechanically, she is in still in excellent health with very healthy compressions on all cylinders (150psi) and decent oil consumption (ave 1/2 litre per 1000 miles, well within Porsche specs); basically, Nick replaced or upgraded anything worn or otherwise below par.

I have a huge file of invoices and receipts, dating back to 1993.

Oh, and both the clock and the Air condition work - yes, really!!

In the last 30 months (10,000 miles) the car has had the following (deep breath):

Ooops ... my apologies for posting my "advert" (see above) in this section ... I should have posted it in the "Members Cars for Sale" area (I have since copied it over to there).

Schoolboy error (one of many!) ...

Sad to hear you are slling mate but at least you still have on Porsche. You might need some luck and patience though. My old girl is a stunning example and I had her on fleabay for a week without a single sniff of a bid and a buy it now price of £4995. The good new is though that I might be able to keep the old girl after all [:)]

I might be aiming too high ... however, I can wait (and maybe if I wait long enough I may not need to sell her!) ... but market value is market value ... so, I suppose, she'll go for what she goes for!!

Modified 944s aren't everybody's cup of tea either ... so maybe I'm better off selling the Lux (choices choices!) ... aaargh!

Glad you can keep yours!

I promised myself last July that if this came up again I would buy it, but to be honest I didn't expect it to come around so soon. So, unless someone makes an offer for my Lux, why would they when no one knows anything about it, I don't quite have the space for it yet and I would be in the dog house too since a bigger house with a double garage is a priority [] [] [] []

I couldn't pin that friend of mine down to actually go and look at one last time I tried but I'm nothing if not stubborn and he's still in the market so I'll try again tonight

It's a lovely car & well worth the money IMO. Nick did loads of good work to that car, and it is far better than most of the 944 turbos out there

Hasn't Nick sold his 964? - perhaps he'd buy it back?

She's gone now ... sniff sniff ... to my bezzy mate in a swap for a fully loaded C Class Merc as it turned out ... and he's going to put me on the insurance - what a top bloke!

Right - so, I haven't really achieved what I needed to and I'm keeping the Merc as a daily driver and putting the Lux back on the road and now I have a Mini Cooper Diesel Clubman for sale ... 2008/£11500/16Kmiles (> 50mpg however you drive it and sticks to the road in a way that would get a strong nod of approval from 944 pilots!) - no, I'm not a dealer ... it's the wife's car!

Thanks to all who offered various sums of dosh and, especially, to those who came and had a look at her and drove her somewhat sportingly around the bypass ... good hunting to all of you.

My commiseration's Rob, I know how you feel, though at least it sounds like you can get a drive of her whenever you like. It took me about 3 months after selling mine to start feeling like I miss her and now I'm wondering what the hell i've done! But I guess i'm at that time in my life where frivolous spend on cars is not really on when there are other family commitments sucking money out of my wallet at the moment. The Focus will be ready for swapping in about 2 - 3 yrs so we'll see where i'm at then! I've picked up some major browny points with the missus for voluntarily getting rid of the 944 in favour of an SMax so i'll be cashing them in you can bet!

Kids are funny though, it is actually my eldest girl who keeps on asking for the 'red sportscar' back and she has rejected the SMax and whenever we step out of the house to go somewhere she'll want to go in the Focus.
