New Boxster

The new Boxster I finally met in person yesterday
at the East London,Stratford centre.
Wow what a really nice car, very modern and sporty.
Great to see and admire.
It does look quite a bit different to the original
Grant Larsen design,a larger car, wider and longer and the bonnet seems higher!
The example in the showroom priced about £45k.
I reflected on this because my ecar was approx £48k when new,but had
had quite a few extras which seem to inflate the price, satnav,in car telephone,Porsche cd changer, full leather,am not sure what these extras would add to the original price but am guessing it would approx be £50k ish, maybe someone might have a bit more idea!
I did ask the Sales for a small leaflet brochure but sadly none available,a shame but I now realise why Porsche make a 6 per cent loss in the UK,we seem slow and inefficient with our sales service!
On the other hand the parts department
Provided very good high quality service, would appreciate other members experiences and views.

There was a review In yesterdays Daily Telegraph which was positive. But the options sounded very exmpensive as usual. Do you still only get a 2 year guarantee ?

The 981 comes with a three year warranty, two years from Porsche and a third year via the dealer. The price of the extra year, £660, is included in the basic UK price and is not an option. It's four years in the USA! Plus ca change.

I know of new owners who have opted out of the 3rd year 'option'. Note that the 3rd year is not the same as the first two.

It really is outrageous only 2 years and pay for a 3rd then pray for the rest ...

If I'm right the 3 rd year is in fact an extended warranty, not at all like the factory warranty and I thought it was more than 600. Why do other markets get a better warranty and not us ?

I have yet to work it out why Porsche seem to think the UK customer base are so dumb to accept shorter warranty period than most other parts of the world and other sports car makers. Great products, but on just about every forum there is always a moan about Porsche warrantys ......:(

Simple we keep buying the cars despite the pathetic warranty given as standard [&o]

I've also opted out of the 3rd year. The configurator puts it in - but not the other On The Road Costs such as RFL, but you can get the dealer to remove it

Have to say though I was looking at a new 991, but just turned round in the showroom and saw the new Boxster S in Black with red leather, it really is in my opinion and taste the best looking Porsche this side of £150K prehaps of all time, I was very tempted at the price of £50K ish but then I saw plus VAT , you could but a very nice 997 for that money, and the crazy thing is you get 2 years on a used car and only 2 (without paying) on a new car, "joke".

Well its must be a year or so since i have posted but i log on daily and read all the posts. When i bought the 996 4s and then the 997 turbo and now have the 997 gt3 gen 2 the 2 year warranty really was most dissappointing and i echoed my feelings through the dealer before buying all these cars. I had always said even at the 996 time it was a disgrace how porsche got away with it. I have never at any time taking an extended warranty with any of these cars and never have had a problem maybe it is because i only do approx 3k a year. In my opinion at the 996 time a 3 yr warranty should have been standard, now in the 991 era having to pay for a third year ( now it should be a 5 year term at no extra cost) warranty is scandalous. I believe its an insult to porsche buyers, now you know its not really all about the cost of the warranty because people buying new porsches are witnessing 10% increases in cars at present anyway. I believe Porsche are not listening to buyers feedback and even their own OPC feedback maybe that why there in the psition they are with the new 991. Why dont be all petition a letter or post to porsche Quote " 5 year Warranty Standard " unquote. Regards

Spot, you have my full support, I hope that the Porsche club will support us all in this, it has the power and the duty to at the least make our feelings known.!!!! Time the people made a stance

Personally I can't think of one area where a 997 would equal yet alone beat a brand new 981 but you pays your money and takes your choice [:D]

Performance just then! Also 4 seats, I am biased with a RS model, seriously though, it’s a fantastic car and so means the 997 and 991 are going to lose sales to a car 99% as good. Hence why when I was standing in two Porsche dealers recently both said no wonder sales of the 991 are slow and the 981 are so good

I am biased for 2 reasons I don't need the 4 chairs [:D] and as I only ever have drop tops I prefer the more balanced looks of the 981 over a 997/991 Cab [8D] Plus even a 911 die hard like CH is having 2nd thoughts too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gk-6s-ZhlYs Unlike CH I switched in 97 from 911's to 986's 987's currently Spyder (no longer needed 4 seats or proper roof [:D]) and have never looked back [;)]

Just spent an hour in the lovely new Boxster, simply put amazing, now I have had 9 porsches' and the last was the GT3RS Gen 2 now sold , but I would like a Porsche for just the Mrs and I , and one in which we could travel with. Its amazing, >£35k cheaper than the new 991 (911) and no less than 95% of the same car in performance, quality and IMO more style. Very impressed, am I buying one, I dont know, but did enjoy drive. Prefer Red and Black interior but just a demo (photo taken with my phone) New Boxster S 0-60 in sports 4.8 sec Top Speed 172 mph about £60K if I chose my Spec New 911 S 0-60 in 4.6 sec Top Speed 176 mph and >£35K more About 93K if I had my spec I really could not fault it, other than it has 2 less seats its all the 911 is IMO, and thats from a person who has had Turbo S and RS, where do they get the price difference??? I think the people who say a Boxster S is not a real Porsche are talking out the rear end !!!

Apart from the rear chairs IMO its 100% everything a 991 Cabrio is except it beats it hands down on value per £, styling inside I think is curvier and sexier looking especially if you have the sports chrono box ticked, and exterior styling again IMO beats the 991 Cabrio   When was the last time you went from 0-60 or max mph Can you actually feel 0.02 seconds in the real world   Final observation which car has the sharper handling and overall superior ride comfort [8D]   One day soon more people might wake up to the fact the best sports car pound for pound made by Porsche today is without doubt the 981 and shortly for the tin top buyers they will have a similar dilema when Cayman arrives on the scene  http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/porsche/boxster

Hard one. I loved my 986 Boxster S and have driven a 987 and enjoyed that too. I have 997.2 c4s with pdk and think it is amazing but i need the rear seats - 2 small children soon to be joined by another one! At least i am allowed to keep my car ( which i do by letting my wife drive it and she soon forgets about selling it). Despite this and saying the 911 is a great car, I'd love another Boxster.

Don't test drive the 981 S PDK otherwise you may be selling the kids [:D]
