Oil and Coolant Question

Apologies for what I am sure is an often-asked question but for some damn reason I can't get the seatch function to work on this site, at least not how I expect it to.

My '87 944 Turbo is on about the minumum level for both oil and coolant.

Oil first: I have read online that 10w-40 is the recommended viscosity. Will I be OK topping it up with the 0w-40 that I happen to have in my garage?

Coolant: does this need to be anything special or will any old coolant with anti-freeze suffice?

You can mix oils without problem, a thinner oil will just be consumed more quickly. I use 10w40 fully synthetic in mine, semi is cheaper & will do no harm in normal use, I found the pressure tended to drop a bit on trackdays with semi, haven't had the same problem with fully synthetic.

Buy the same colour coolant that your car is currently using (probably blue), don't mix red & blue or you'll get sludge. If you can't tell what colour it is it's time to change it [;)]
