Hi looking at getting a Boxster/Boxster S as a daily driver. I had a New Cayman S when they first came out and really regret selling it. I have around £15K to spend so OPC is out. I am a little worried about the horror stories of RMS/IMS going and costing big bucks to repair. At what sort of mileage does this usually happen? Also if not buying from an OPC what are my options re warranty to protect against such eventualities.

If it all proves too risky/expensive I may be forced to look at TTs or similar cars so please give me some good news to spare me from that!

i have been offered arond 15k for my40k miler s for trade in so it is possible to get a decent one

for Gods sake dont get TT instead[:D]

I note a recent post where a chap with an OPC-maintained 2003 Boxster S had an IMS failure at 21,000 miles, so I guess that it can happen at any time.

You could try getting a quote from Warrantywise (although I found that they were actually more expensive than a Porsche Extended Warranty!) and Hartech offer a Lifetime Maintenance Plan which could be attractive if you live in the Manchester area.

The important thing to do is make sure that you get the car inspected before purchase - a reputable Indy seems to be the prefered route - and buy the latest model 987 that you can afford as there were a number of upgrades before the major change was introduced in the Gen II vehicles, where the IMS was deleted.

As Dylan says, please don't take the TT route.!

Do any of the independents offer a warrenty similar to the Porsche one? If so that may be an option for me as the prices are a bit lower. My closest is Paragon I think

If you're west of Paragon, have a talk to Ken Napier at Nine Excellence (near Gatwick). If east, to Cliffe Lowe at Project Nine in Marden.

So, if I were to buy from an indi which ones offer the cars with a decent warranty to cover such things as ims etc/
