I may need a new radiator and have been quoted about £300 for the part - does that sound about right? How much labour time is involved in changing a radiator and what are the pros and cons of having the original re-cored?

cheers

Sulzeruk - Alistair - has invetigated but I cant remember outcome! Search on here, but adjust time to 6 months or so.

Search on the net for an OEM supplier. I got a radiator a few years ago for my S2 for £160. It was not supplied by Porsche but was made by the same maufacturer as the original radiator.

I'm not sure if it is possible to recore plastic/ aluminium radiators.

thanks Alasdair - I am having it pressure tested next week and will let you know if i want yours

There was quite an extensive thread which I started on here about November last year when I changed mine. Covers all the questions you asked. Basically the cheapest place is Euro car parts. about 260ish IIRC. Recoring is possible but I was advised that the end tanks go brittle and can crack during the process. I went new cos I need the car every day but a recore would halve the cost and TBH my tanks seemed fine when I got the rad off. I did the job myself and including lots of system flushing and cleaning I reckon it took around 3 hours. I'm sure a speciallist would have it done in half that.

Edit - original thread is here http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=513753&mpage=1&key=&#513753

As its just been said changing one isn't a massive job, fan off, hoses off and it will just lift out, easier to take the bottom tray off and drop the fan out the bottom.

If you're doing it yourself a couple of hours should cover it, just remeber to do it on a cold engine [;)]

My opinion, I don't do the work so labour charges have to be considered.

£300 new, £160 recored. Fitting, fluids etc. probably as much as the difference. I'd do it once, swallow the £140 and sleep comfortably knowing it was sorted for the next 20 years. [8|]
