Relay and fuse layout for a 83 944

Hi,

Anybody know where I can get the fuse and relay layout for an 83 944? Looked at the clarks garage and it doesn't corresponds to that neither to the one shown in haynes manual.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Tian

I haven't found a problem with the Haynes one... or the proper Porsche ones (the one I have is for an '84 car though). What circuit is it and what is the problem? It might be worth looking at a 924 manual as well?

I've a Haynes for the 924 and the 944 but cant find the diagram for an 83 with electric windows, so if you do find one please, let me know!
Amything else, I may be able to help with.

IIRC the relay for the windows is under the dash next to the ECU on models with the battery under the bonnet.

Oh and the fuse is on the Aux board under the glove box

the electric windows relay is indeed under the glove box. Just need to figure out which one of several under there? Anybody know if there is a relay for frond and back wipers?

Intermitteant wiper relay is forth from the left on the fusebox (that is actually on the relay, not one of the auxiliary relays mounted on the top of the fusebox - they could be, and frequently are, in any order).

The windows relay is the bigger usually brown 5 pin relay clipped to the side of the tranny tunnel -passenger footwell- thats the easy bit- what I want to know is, should the windows work with no key in the ignition and the doors open? mine do and I'm not sure they should!

Intermittant wiper is the one just above fuses 9 and 10, but I've no idea about the rear wiper.

in the 83 and 84 model. Does it come with central locking?

I am guess if i replace the windows and wipers relay it should all work, or is that wishful thinking?

i am also assuming i can get these relays from euro car parts or gsf?

Thanks for ur help so far.

83 and 84 didnot come standard with central locking - mine has it but only on the alarm fob not from the doors, so guessing an aftermarket fitment.

Should work - crossing fingers and thumbs etc!

The relays are i think standard types - check the numbers by the pins carefully - but the ones on the tranny tunnel have clips attached which are unusual but if the numbers are ok then I would make my own mounting.

Yes they should.

I have seen all sorts of bodges on early 944 windows... many of which stem from the connection in the drivers side pillar not being polarised. if they are put back together the wrong way round, the drivers window will work perfectly, but the passenger window ceases to function. the problem, of course, is that people immediately think it a passenger door problem, and even looking at the switches it doesn't point to this connector as being a problem...

cheers for that, still need some more bits before getting it tested and taxed.

1 black centre cap,
pair of sun visors with mounting
fuel pump mounting kit.

I may have a centre cap for a cookie cutter, I'll look in the morning.

My problem is that both windows work fine with a replacement relay, with the ignition on as usual but also work regardless of ignition switch position IF either dor is open - ie interior light is on.

Am I normal?

Correct. This is how it should function - it is mentioned as such in the owners handbook for eth car - a feature incorporated so that if you get out of the car without closing the windows, you don't have to put the key back in the ignition to close them. Once you know the feature is there it is surprising how often you use it!

Thanks Trev - I theought I was going mad( and have to agree with my wife!)
And yes I 've used it twice today (never before).

Tandy - Unfortunatly, I have 2 halves of the centre cap!

Mike

Edit - A bottle of Shiraz does wonders for ones spelling etc!

Mike, snap, I got 2 halves too but cheers for looking. I put a wanted notice in the spares listing so I can hopefully get some help on getting hold of those parts.
