S2 Cam cover factory colour???

foggy

New member
Hi all
Have removed my cam cover from my S2 and was wondering what the factory beige colour is called??

Thought about having it chromed but decided to keep it standard.

Cheers

Yes my 1998 944 book shows a picture where the S2 rocker cover is def silver, I can only assume heat from thr engine must have done something to the paint over the years...

Mine was beige, so I changed it to gunmetal - shame the distributor is still beige [:(]

Most factory pictures and also pics which can be found from books shows silver valve covers. Prototypes & factory publicity pictures had cam covers with silver color. Most likely production vechiles had that beige color.
Here's factory publicity picture taken in November 1988

I've no idea what posessed Porsche to pick that colour, unless it has outstanding Magnesium preserving properties. I asked the same question on a German forum, and they speculated tongue-in-cheek that there must have been a lot of Africa-Corps Sand colour left over after the war..All replacement cam covers from the factory now seem to be silver.
