It's the usual Goldtrack event - open pitlane. On the old (Historic / Bridge circuit)
£149, but if we have a few takers we might get a lovely forum discount from Melindi [:D]

It's listed as 98dB - which shouldn't be a problem for most 944's, but might cause me one or two issues...

Add your name if you fancy coming & we'll try & firm up a list in the next few days.

1. Ed - Honda Civic

My now 8-day-old daughter [:)] is likely to limit trackdays for a while but I am definitely up for this one. 1. Ed - Honda Civic 2. Steve 944T

Limited funds means I won't be driving, but I'll be there for the chat and passenger rides 1. Ed - Honda Civic 2. Steve 944T 3. Paul (diver944)

Gah, If only I had more time to run my engine in, I might be able to be there... hmm.. think I can drive over 1000 miles in 4 days?

I once drove 1500 miles in 2 days (well three but one of those I did no driving:) ..it was rather expensive on fuel though.

....looks like that's a resounding "no" then I may have a couple more takers - I'll see what Melindi has to say about discounts

I have a credit and want to get out on track however MOT has expired - nothing major - but some rust needs attention, handbrake needs a rebuild and a few other niggles that need doing - however i could always trailer it - not sure on work commitments yet, so a definate maybe at the moment. hopefully becoming a probable later! :)

Shame []. I'm still up for this one, or one of the other evenings. I will probably only manage one or maybe 2 track evenings this year so it would be nice to get a few of the regulars together if possible.

That's looking a bit better :) I will call melindi at lunchtime & see if we can get an improved price

A slight hijack. I am interested in this but as a track-day newbie (just done the odd airfield day, handling day etc in other people's cars) what are the chances of taking your 944 to one of these evenings and not being saddled with a bill for £££ for new tyres, brakes etc? I guess I am asking, is it possible to go one of these evenings but take it relatively steady given a) I would be new to track days and b) I don't want a massive repair bill for consumables and breakages afterwards? Also, do they have any tyre-fitting facilities there? My rears have only got a couple of mm's left before the wear indicators so I would probably need to bring spare tyres with me to get home but I don't have spare wheels.

James You will be fine - Silverstone won't eat your tyres, particularly not your rears. The only issue you may have is scrubbing the outside of the fronts if you are entering corners too fast ( a common newbie mistake, no aspersions on your driving [;)]) Race tracks are far less harsh on tyres than airfields Brakes - certainly well worth having your brakes up to scratch before you come - with a decent amount of thickness on the pads. I'd favour slightly better pad material to cope with track temps, but standard Porsche pads aren't bad. The best way to reduce wear is to book an instructor for 20-30 mins. He will get you going round much more quickly & smoothly, and will really help reduce tyre / brake wear be warned - the expense is in the next 5 years once the bug really bites as you chase bigger brakes, more hp, stiffer suspension, (and headgaskets, driveshafts, etc..) [:D] In a turbo it's also very easy to run through a tank of fuel in a few hours on a racetrack. I used to reckon on a tank and a half on a dry all day trackday.

Hi James. As EDH has already said, Silverstone is not a huge brake and tyre killer and in a three hour evening session you would be lucky to do more than 100 track miles. Make sure your brake fluid is fresh, your oil and coolant are topped up and you bring a tyre pressure gauge as the pressures will rocket after a 20 minute session and need lowering so you don't balloon your tyres. Melindi at Goldtrack is very good and if you explain you are a 944 track newbie with a first time at Silverstone you will possibly get a freebie instruction session thrown in. She likes 944's and her partner Callum instructs in his 968. It looks like there should be a group of us there so we can fill your ears with amateur advice (so you will know what to ignore [;)] ) and it will be a good social evening no matter what. Always drive at your own pace, watch your mirrors and never be tempted to keep up with the faster cars. There is always someone better, faster, smoother so the idea is just to have fun and explore the limits that you simpy can't find on the road.

ORIGINAL: pauljmcnulty In that case I'll be there. You promised me a few passenger laps! [8D]
Hi Paul, Of course! You'll be nice and comfortable in the Monaro's arm chair seating ;-) Regards, Andrew
