Spacers

I've been running the '44 on a set of 993 cup2's, but the rear has a 9" rears with a 70 offset, there's clearence on the inside, but I'm wanting to get them level with the fronts which are 7" with a 55 offset, which IIRC is very close to the correct offset.

Am I right in in thinking that 15mm spacer will level things up. IF thats the case can the standard studs cope with a 15mm spacers or will I need to fit longer ones?

And if thats the case.... who has a set of wheels with the correct offset for a 1988 '44 that need a light refurb but have good tyres and wants to swap for the set I have in same state [:D]

Just done a bit of looking around t'internet about the spacers, reasons for all this is that car just doesn't feel right at around 80, still skating slightly, needs tracking done which won't but... Not really had to concern myself much with this kind of thing in the past so just after some clarification I anyone can help as this sugests I need the wheel moving inwards somehow!

That is assuming the late 2.5 944 came with 8" rears as standard if not then would they have had &2 all round making this the requirement for the rears ( which in all honesty looks more like it from what I can see)

Thanks in advance

that calc doesnt tell you what to do to make the offset the same or make the wheels level, just what the position of the wheels will be relative to the ones youre comparing. IE 993 9J ET70 rears will stick out 7mm more than the standard 7J ET52 teles. an extra 2 inches (50mm) wider means 25mm less clearance each side if offset were the same, but because offset is 18mm greater that shifts the clearance to 43 inside 7 outside (IE 50 total). to calculate the spacer needed to balance the wheels subtract the offset of the 993 wheel (70) from the offset of the original (52) = 18mm. That will give the wheel the same centre line. Wether it then sits further in or out compared to the fronts is a cosmetic issue (unless it starts to foul the arches); original 7J ET52 teles sit well in at the rear.

What Pastry said. I believe std Turbo D90 rears are 9" wide with an offset of 52. No probs with arch fouling. You therefore want 18mm spacers to replicat this - at this size you are talking "proper" bolt-on spacers as opposed to shims. these bolt onto your hub, the wheel then bolts onto them. edit to add - I'd stick some 5mm shims on the fronts too. Not expensive and will "correct" the slight inset your newer fronts have.

I'm sure ive heard it said before that turbos have rolled arches to accomodate wider rears. Standard 2.5 have a lip so ~10mm less clearance. You can get the arches rolled on a 2.5 but it may crack the paint. This is one of the reasons why I gave up with the 993 cups and got some 968 ones instead ;) Incidentally is anyone running spacers on ET55 wheels? I thought it was close enough not to bother.

Cheers guys, that some chunk of spacer for rears! think I'll just look to sell the 993 wheels and go for a set of regular '44 wheels
