considering the hot dry climate in the States this amount of corrosion to a compression joint in the fuel injection electrical harness makes you think doesn't it !

Blimey, that looks like some of the wires under the carpet of my old Passat after discovering that there was a pond lurking under the carpet.
 
I flooded my Mums Mini Clubman Estate 30+ years ago and found a family of frogs in it the following morning.
