Transaxle musings

Just read in Car mag that the old Volvo 340 has a rear-mounted transmission, and compares it to the 944 and Nissan GTR.

How many other cars use this layout? I know of Astons and the front-engined Ferraris, there must be plenty more. [8|]

Answered my own question....

Some nice cars amongst the list!

Ah you beat me to it with the Alfa 75 being in that list, my first transaxle car was the 75 would want another one with those inboard rear disc real horrible job to work on them!!

1to add to the list ( I think) DAF Daffodil/33/44 cars and vans. They had variomatic transmissions which I think were resr mounted

You sure the Supra was? The chap on Rennlist who installed an Audi 5 cylinder engine into his 944 with silly bhp used a Supra gearbox mounted directly onto the back of the engine if my memory serves me right?

Also the 911 has a transaxel - though I guess the thread is about front mounted engined cars with transaxels!
