How can anyone give a definitive answer to a subjective question like this.
However I fitted Toyo T1Rs to my S2 and have been more than happy with them now got over 6K miles on them and they still look like new, grip fantastic in the dry and pretty good in the wet.

I have a feeling that I probably change my tyres more than most (30k+ miles per year), so some tyres have probably been on a car for years - the rubber will not be at its best...
Insidentally - I have always hated Pirellis on my previous cars, but they seem to work ok, for a given mileage on the 944. I have, by the way, tried Michellin F1s (and crashed), Goodyear, Dunlop, Uniroyal, Dark-horse skidmaster, you name it... but not some of those now ranted over...
If we could get a few cars together on the same wheel I for one would be happy to let some-one try my wheels and tyres on there car in exchange for doing the same on mine... trying a different car is obviously an unrealistic way of getting a comparrison...

avons on a lux - ok but I think a lux doesnt want too sticky a tyre.
Turbo with 17s
michelin mxx3's or something (N0), pirelli P zero, bridgestone S02 n1 and n2 iirc, goodyear eagle, Dunlop sp9000, part worn contis sport contacts off a 911 - my favourites are dunlop sp9000 on my third set now, but pressures need to be around 32psi. I know some others found them 'loose' (also tried pirelli slicks and michelin and pirelli track tyres but probably even less relevant here
