Depends on the wheels. My Fuchs are 195/65/15 on the front and 215/60/15 on the rear where my Teledials are 195/65/15 all round. That's on a 1983 944.
 
My '83's manual shows various sizes. They show the same size all around and the largest size listed is 215/60x15 on the widest rims (7") Would guess it would be the same for the '84 cars too, with the changes due the following year. Mike
 
Not sure on the correct sizes but I recall someone mentioning the difference in size to help induce understeer in the car at the limit, rather than oversteer as the former is easier to control
 
Can you post pics, because your car for its year should have 15" cookie cutters all round on 195 tyres. from what you're saying soulds like its got aftermarket wheels. They're not to wide though I've got 993 cups on mine running 205 at the front and 245 at the rear, but being an 88 the offset is different to your car
 
Sorry, hadn't noticed the 16 inch rear rims on the OP - that sounds odd , I've never seen a 944 with different sized rims. As Paul says should have 15" Cookies or 16" Fuchs (standard or option) so guessing wheels are not standard! Pics would be a good now Mike
 
I didn't spot the 16" rear rim either. Perhaps a 15" teledial on the front and 16" on the rear, could also be fuchs with a larger diameter 911 rim on the rear.
 
Sorry thats my fault the rear tyres are 15 inch also and i think the wheels are called fuchs ill post a pic or two could someone tell me how to post pics thanks lads . Andy
 
Hi guys the car is a 1984 944 lux i have just checked the tyre sizes and she has 215x60x15 on the front and 225x60x16 on the back why the differance in size are these the correct size tyres thanks guys .

If they look like these then they're Fuchs.

They are actually the Cookie Cutters made by ATS, standard on our cars. I love mine, far nicer in my view than the later standard telephone dials. But I'd love the Fuchs more! Nothing wrong there, standard wheels for the year of the car, cookie cutters as they are affectionately known. Most sports cars that are rear wheel drive regularly have fatter wheels at the rear for grip, you car IRC would have come with the same tyres all round and would have been 195's Car should run fine on that setup though, rears are about maxed out for the rims though I think
 
A9 I have to agree with you there, strange thing is I like the 15" teledials I had on the 924S but I just don't like the 16" version, that may sound odd but they just look different a not in a nice way to me, thats why I went with cups instead of keeping it standard
 
215/60/15s are the standard sizes. 195s were more commonly seen as an option on series two cars. Very early series one cars came with 185/70/15s.
