Valuation / repair advice

Looking for some advice.

I have a 1978 911 SC Targa that I am looking to get back on the road again after 10 years garaged.

I have completed an engine rebuild, and mechanically it is now sound and running smoothly.

However, there is extensive corrosion around both rear wings, sills and kidney bowls, and around the base of the targa hoop. I have been quoted £20k+ to repair the corrosion and respray. I need to work out whether a) I can afford this and b) it is worth me doing.

So, my questions here are largely around valuation -

Any idea what a car in it's current condition would be worth? I guess as a "restoration project"
Any idea what it would be worth afterwards. Not concourse, but a good condition 1978 SC Targa

I have a friend, a Porsche Indy, who has just restored and sold on a Targa. He would no doubt be prepared to pass on his experiences.
I'd be happy to pass on his contact details if you would care to PM me.
Regards,

Clive

Value may depend upon a many things - matching number, service history, car history, originality, authentication document, mileage, number of owners, RHD/LHD.
Coupe are worth more than targas.
I did the restoration on my brothers 1977 targa. seems your has gone in the usual places. Rusty kidney bowls will effect the structure of a Targa.
I found lots more rust than I could initially spot.
Concours matching number cars will be £60K+. Good cars should be between £35K to £55k.
A poor condition car would be £15K to £20K. Saying that a rebuilt engine and gearbox could be £15K+.
Design 911 have an SC rebuilt engine for sale for £22K!
Tough choice as to restore or not. Restoration always costs more than the initial quote.

As Richard implies, the cost will be more than the car is worth, £40K would be a safe figure, I dont know how much the car owes you or how much you have spent on it so far but you can see what we mean.
