What is it?

My S2 is behaving very strange today after driving it for the first time for nearly a week. It started OK and everything seems fine until I accelerate at 4000 rpm and beyond down in the A12. The S2 seems just continue revving the engine even I release the gas. I felt the gas pedal is pushing down itself even I didn't and it will slow down if I completely off the gas pedal. It seems like something is pulling the gas pedal.

Can someone please advice me what the problem is. I am very worry if I go beyond 4000 rpm and don't know when it will stop revving itself. It is just like driving an automatic with cruise control set to a very high speed. Scarey!

have you jacked it up recently? careless jack positioning can bend the footwell leading to a sticking pedal.
Is the mat pushing up behind the pedal?

Have you had it jacked up recently?

The floor pan under the accelerator is directly above the front offside jack point. If the car is lifted by this point only, then it can sometime bend the floor a little and cause the pedal to stick. The technical solution is to place thick towelling or carpet in the floor well and give it a good twatting with a wide headed lump hammer [:eek:]

 
I definitely haven't jacked it up. The car has been left in the driveway all the time. The mat I noticed that sometimes is getting a bit too close to the pedals but does it has that sort of weight to push down the pedal that hard?

I will take out the mat and try again.

The mat may get into the hinge and interfere with the operation, sometimes the carpet & sound deadening behind the pedal can also catch the cable.

This happened to me once,a had 2 new tyres fitted and pulled out of the garage no problem,but when i got to the roundabout i put my foot down and the pedal just went flat to the floor and the car bolted off sideways up the dual carrage way. Funny now when i look back on it but pretty scary at the time !!!!
 
Jon M once told me that the accelerator cable can 'saw' through the sound deadening material where it passes through the bulkhead and then get jammed. Might be worth a look...

Thanks guys for the advice. Part of the cause is the sound proofing material that traps the accelerator cable. I think it could have got a bit loose and then got pushed up after years and finally got caught up with the cable.

I managed to cut a small piece of the rather thick and tough material out (the position is quite awkward though) so that they are now not touching. The problem however still persists after the cut piece fix and disappeared after I applied some WD40 and vasesiline on all possible contact areas along the cable as well as the hinges and springs where the cable ends up near the airflow meter area.

The rear bodywork/ underbody air spoiler looks like 944 turbo/S2. Possibly some horrific cut n' shut?, the rear of an S2 welded to the front of a 924 with early 944 wings and spoiler bolted on?? Then painted a horrid shade of yellow.
 
Very odd one. Even when the cars were worth more money I can't imagine that was ever a sound financial idea... The weight advantage they mentioned would have been partly counteracted by fitting the wider wings and heavier engine/gearbox anyway... Plus I wonder what brakes it has???
I think I'd run a mile from this one unless there is a good story to go with it.
 
It does have 5 stud cookie cutters which would need to have 83 to 85 hubs and suspension, I guess? The listing also comments that the speedo was replaced and the wire for the fuel consumption gauge was left off. This would suggest a 944 loom as well at least to accommodate the fuel computer which a 2.0 924 wouldn't have. I suspect nobody has gone to any more trouble than grinding off the chassis number on a 944 and adding the 944 one.

Makes you realise what you could buy in all innocence if you didn't know what to look for.

Nearly correct. It could have the brakes etc from a 1979 to 83 924 Turbo but that is nitpicking as they are the same as a 944.
The chassis number dates it as a nautrally asperated 2 litre 924 built in 1979.
 
Wouldn't touch it unless you could fix it all yourself and then some. You'd probably need to spend the same again to get it how you'd want it.
 
well i stuck a turbo front end on my 2.5 and when i got mine it needed clutch, gearbox, interior and driveshafts, then the sills went. and my paint was shocking!

all this one needs is basically some fettling, obviously i am basing this conclusion on pictures and not alot else! Fnar!
 
I fail to see the problem. This looks ago to me?

So is it a 2.7, ie a lux, but with a body kit? Or an S2, owned by someone who thinks it's a 2.7? I'd possibly want to double check everything else he says, could be fine but could also be someone who doesn't know anything about the car. Or, how to spell machanic....[FONT=arial"][:'(][FONT=verdana,geneva"]
