What is it?

That's exactly why I've spent so much of my life building and maintaining this forum. We've got here the greatest pool of knowledge about the cars, and that can only be a very good thing.
 
well ive given the bloke a ring sounds like a nice chap, i'm gonna have a look at it tomorrow while i am working in sheffield, ill let you know what its like ;)
 
Jesus, that 2.7 near me at £3k was cheap then. It had 130k but bar a slight bit of wear to the bolster (and I mean slight (no ripping), broken glovebox and non working clock, it was otherwise fine and drove tight. It was white with 16" Teledials but it did look clean.
 
Whilst 103,000 is def not bad for these cars I wouldnt call it very low mileage[&:]... makes you wonder about the truth in other items he describes, 'just a few things wrong, I dont have the time', if he were telling the truth he would find the time so he could ask the £4000 he thinks it is worth mint.

went to have a look at this at the weekend, the inner and outer sills are very badly corroded, the A/C works tho, its pretty tidy, but i nearly killed myself when i stepped on the brakes.... they were very er........ sh** not worth the money at all.
 
Yes, not the best design feature ever. I guess it shows an overconfidence in galvanising. I have seen a 944 Turbo in the car park at work with the sill trims removed and it looked OK - the square jacking point didn't stand out, I guess if you know it's there your eyes will be drawn to it. I guess you could trim the square jacking point down a bit so it doesn't protrude so much.
 
When I first took my sill trims off I was uber aware of the centre jacking point!!! To the point that I was adamant I would cover it up with something. Nearly a year later I hardly even notice it. I am in the process of painting and undersealing the whole of the underside of my car (albeit a little bit at a time) and I plan on painting them black. Hopefully this will make them even less noticeable. Will let you know how I get on and maybe post a pic.

Looking at the underside of my sills with the car in the air at the body shop there is a square protrusion about an inch deep towards the rear of the sill. About the same size as the jacking point. It looks like a drain point but is it?
Could it come off?

Yes, each is fixed with a screw and nut. When they come off easily it means there isn't yet too much rust in there.
 
So is it a 2nd jacking point? If it is I didn't know about that.
I don't mean the round jacking point in line with the diamond on the sill but a square piece the same size but much further back towards the rear wheel.
 
No mate the one by the diamond is the jacking point. The ones that are fore and aft of that one are your lifting points for a four post lift or where you should put axle stands. You should only ever jack from the centre post.
 
That's my boy!!! Exactly what I am doing at the moment. Lot's of black hammerite and a few gallons of waxoyl. To be fair it should look pretty nice under there by the time I have finished.
