Wheeler Dealers

For those of you with Sky, channel 242, "Discovery Shed", at 12:00 lunchtime on Monday:

"Porsche 944 Turbo, Part 1: Mike Brewer and Edd China are on cloud nine when they get their hands on a Porsche. However, it is not all smooth sailing on this restoration"

Followed at 12:30 by part 2:

"Porsche 944 Turbo, Part 2: The mechanic maestros continue to work on the spectacular Porsche Turbo, using all their skills to make sure this is an unforgettable overhaul."

Might be worth a watch, although I'm a bit concerned that a 944 is on a channel called "Shed"!!

I posted up re that episode last year when I had just got in to 944's and got what I thought was a very unfair hammering by folk telling me it had been on a hundred times before , maybe the measly folk in question will be kinder to you [:D] I still love that program, cheesy it may be but I do love Wheeler dealers both the old series and the new. I cant get the guy selling the cozzie out of my mind , he had don't buy a used car off of me written or maybe even stamped all over him. Mike Brewer " It's been through a few battles hasn't it mate " Seller smiles broadly and replies " A few " one of the classic Wheeler Dealer quotes that sticks in my mind. There are plenty of cars in that series I would love to have bought TBH but amazingly I have never been tempted by that particular 944 when it has come up for sale [8|] Cheers Mas

I watched both episodes not that long ago and its nice to watch something you know a little about! The car keeps coming up for sale - not the best example it seems and Porsche racing orange??

I read on another forum that:- "It is worth noting that the program is total fiction! The buyers and sellers shown are not the real ones as portrayed in the program, Mike Brewer does not actually buy and sell those cars at the prices shown and Ed doesn't even do the work. It is allegedly the mechanic "Paul" seen sometimes in the program that does all the work, Ed only twirls the spanners for the cameras". Also, one of the forum members on here was involved in sourcing the cars, not Mike Brewer.

On all the time on Discovery Turbo, and yes I'm one of the saddo's that keeps watching them all for the 100th time [:D]

It looked aweful when it was being driven round the track! I've had 944's that smoked but not like that, it was not a happy car:(

"On all the time on Discovery Turbo, and yes I'm one of the saddo's that keeps watching them all for the 100th time _____________________________ -Paul " Yes, i've warched all the episodes too even though I suspect it is fake! I don't believe it is possible to buy a car from a private seller, do a little work then sell at the profit levels they claim!

It is but they dont factor the mechanics time into it. I remember one with an old Bentley Mulsanne Turbo where about 6 days of body prep by two people was "forgotten"

Like TG it's entertainment pure and simple - and I am an avid repeat offender too. If Mike Brewer is a real car salesman he couldn't have been a very good one. His negotiating skills are atrocious - he couldn't do more to make himself out to be a shady and dodgy salesman if he tried, some of his decisions are risky to say the least - buying cars with potentially knackered gearboxes for example. They clearly carefully vet the cars before they buy them and the buyers and sellers are obviously actors or mates from the pub. The one I keep drooling over is the Audi Quattro one. Loved those cars when I were a young 17yr old and still do. Just seem a bit of a risky purchase, though there is a guy at work who has a beaut which I would be tempted with if he were to sell up. With the 944T one he never mentioned anything about looking for rusty sills and wing bottoms and timing belt replacements which are the two primary things you should be looking out for when buying a 944.
