i managed to buy just a top tension pad for my 16v 944S from Porsche but they didn't have a lower one [&:]

does anybody know where i can get a lower one and is not too expensive? The top one only cost £7.12 + VAT from Porsche

I think the lower ones are hard to get hold of, and may only be available if you buy the whole tensioner mechanism.

There are rumours of a source (I think), so I'll watch this thread with interest in case you find one ... !

Both can be purchased from Porsche, you just have to get hold of the part number and tell them as it's not graphically listed in PET.

Edite to add : et voilà, lower tensioner pad part number : 928.105.347.01

Excellent, it's exactly the sort of thing that should be in the faqs section.

I'm a gardener by trade, so as you'll understand it's not the time of year where I can collate all these little gems into proper threads. If anyone can help out, the 944 faqs would soon become the default source for answers to difficult questions. [:)]

From my own recent experience when my Indie tried to order this part - the upper chain slipper is available for about £7, however the lower slipper part no. 928 105 347 01 is no longer available. Amazingly though, you can buy a 'chain tensioner kit' which comprises the upper and lower slipper pads and a couple of screws for...............wait for it...... £63 + VAT [8|][:(].....nice one Porsche !

Be interesting if anybody is able to find them, but sadly not for me.

^ yup, that's the part no. i gave Porsche for the lower pad [:(]

for peeps wanting the upper pad... it's 928 105 509 01 @ £8.37

Can't confirm part numbers, but definitely both available, just had upper and lower swapped on the S2 last week by my indy. £20 parts.

Rang indy, doesn't know whether you can still get them. He bought a batch many moons ago, with 928 part number, used the last one on my car!

Im presuming these are the same as the 944 S2 ones.??
Surely the top + bottom ones are the same part.??
Arnt they.??
Has anybody seen them side by side....My guess is they are the same.

Following up on this one ... I am talking to a manufacturer in the coming few days, and can enquire about a short run of these parts.

Does anyone have an old lower tensioner pad they can send me as a model part? (A worn one would be fine).

Ian,

Thanks. Just called them, spoke with Simon, and he has lots of upper ones but no lowers.

He has said he will see if he can get hold of one for me and will call me back. We'll see ...
