I had this dashcam fitted by my local OPC, last summer, for a Not Insignificant Sum...
It seems to be riddled with problems, and I wonder if anyone else has experienced them, or whether I am just lucky...
1. It frequently does not record any files from ignition on, starting perhaps 15, 20 or whatever minutes into a journey.
2. Also frequently suffers gaps in recordings (usually a single clip, sometimes 2) - I am using the Porsche supplied microSD card.
3. Audio quality is absolutely carp - with alternator whine, and distortion (not wind noise) - I think this partly due to a poor installation kit (it was not pre-wired at the factory)
4. The parking mode, when recordings should be triggered by radar proximity, as well as vibration, is pretty much useless, almost always completely failing to detect cars manoeuvring within a few feet of the front of the car, even when set to maximum sensitivity.
I have asked the OPC to replace the unit, as it is not fit for purpose, but do not want to put them in a position where they are unable to claim from Porsche GB - they have tried to be helpful so far, and I would rather develop a positive relationship with them (this is my first Porsche, and I did not buy the car from my local OPC).
I can evidence 1 - 4 with files which I can share with the OPC, but it would appear that Porsche are only interested if the OPC people themselves capture the errors. This would mean leaving my car with them for several days at a time which - even with a loan car - is a pain, especially as they really are failing to see the errors/gaps that I am finding - they do not appear to understand how to read clip filenames in order to find gaps, for example.
It might seem trivial, but having a dashcam which actually misses an incident/accident would be more than a little annoying...
So - anybody else using these things, and if so, do you have similar problems?
