BROOKLANDS GOES PORSCHE
There was a special line-up of the 911 G-Series cars (1974-1989) at the PCGB event at Brooklands on 30 June. Unfortunately, we were unable to attend this year, however, Alan Davies kindly volunteered to provide the following account of the day:
“A specific parking area was allocated for the G-Series cars celebrating 50 years. PCGB had also produced display boards for each specific model shown. The 3.2s were well represented with examples of the Coupé, Targa and Cabriolet, but no Speedster. A very attractive Club Sport version was placed with the other air-cooled competition 911s away from the main G-Series display by the organisers. It is good to see the 3.2 CS is now part of the Register.

“It was purely coincidental that four red cars should be first to park and line up together and then three white cars also parked together further down the line-up. 3.2s of other colours were on display, including a very attractive black turbo-look Cabriolet and a white imported Italian specification Coupé.

“The 3.2 members who stayed with their cars were kept busy with favourable questions and comments from the public - one or two of whom related back to the famous 930 Guards Red bedroom poster (along with that of the tennis player!).

“The G-Series cars only formed a small part of the 400 or so Porsches on display. Every other model, both classic and modern, was present possibly with the exception of the Porsche tractor.
“Overall, both the Club and Brooklands put on a fine display and it was nice to hear the Brooklands commentator congratulate the Club on this first-time dedicated display.
“All Brooklands’ site facilities were available to members including the Concorde Experience and Museum. Even the test hill was opened and tried out - mainly by those with more modern cars.
“The weather was reasonably kind and members and public alike hoped this could be repeated, possibly next year. No doubt there will be a large turnout of Porsches again at Brooklands German Day on 29 September.”
Thank you, Alan, for the words and photos.
CONTRIBUTING TO THIS COLUMN
If you have been to an event where you have been impressed with the show of 3.2s, or G-Series cars, and feel you would like to make an entry in the column, please write 300-350 words and, if possible add some photos. Register members appreciate reading personal accounts from a 3.2 perspective.Alternatively, you may also like to write about your ownership, maintenance, or renovation of a 3.2, as I know that is equally enjoyed by the followers of this column.
Hopefully, we will be able to have 3.2s on display at Classics at the Castle, Hedingham Castle on 15 September and also at the Yorkshire Porsche Festival at Sewerby Hall on 29 September. We will be attending both those events and hope to see you there!
