Hi all,
If you will be affected by the new proposed congestion charge for gas guzzlers then please get in touch with me via Private Mail (see email in the profile) ASAP.

The planned proposal, which is currently going through consultation, is for everyone to pay the higher charge irrelevant of being a resident or not if you use the charge zone i.e. the latest proposal is to introduce a new £25 charge per day for those vehicles that emit more than 225 gm/km of CO2 irrevelant of being a resident or not.

Many thanks,
Kish

I have my own plan for this nonsense. Since this will hit me due to where I live, I will be removing the 993 from London, where it is no fun to drive anyway and takes me a minimum of 45 minutes to get to anything that I would call a road, and keeping it somewhere I don't have to pay through the nose either a) to park it or b) to drive it. That way I will get more use and fun out of it and Ken won't see a single penny from it.

Hi all,
Thanks for all those who dropped me an email and their contact details; I have still got the end of the week to take some more names so please drop me an email ASAP.

Many thanks,
Kish

Any info on what is proposed, what areas/times etc? Is this linked with the Emmisions Charge? (signs are up on the M3).
As I'm not a London resident, I don't know what's going on, but I live close enough to be afected (potentially) ?

and link to the pdf files from the site. Not sure if they will give valid links as pasted below:

Detailed Scheme Description and Supplementary Information (PDF 610KB)

As mentioned please drop me a private mail so I can give you the details of what is being done by London region Porsche owners who will be affected by this and the reason why it cannot be discussed on the forum, so far I have had some 40 names.

All the best,

Hi Mark,
I found out about the LEZ (London Low Emission Zone) sign you saw on M3; the 4-5 cameras posts put up on various roads in London are the detectors and they would take the photo of the offending vehicle too:
http://www.haulageexchange.co.uk/article-18208845/article.html

The London Low Emission Zone (LEZ) is due to come into effect from February 4th, 2008, in order to deter the most polluting vehicles from driving in the area.

It will affect older, diesel-engined lorries, buses, coaches, large vans (those exceeding 1.205 tonnes in weight, unladen) and minibuses, and will be phased in between February 2008 and January 2012. It will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, every day of the year.

The zone covers most of Greater London, following the Greater London Authority boundary, and extends to Barnet in the north, Rainham in the east, Biggin Hill in the south and Heathrow in the west.

All public roads within this boundary are included in the LEZ. This includes certain motorways (parts of the M1 and M4), but not the M25.

The zone will be delineated by signs at entry points, informing drivers they are entering the LEZ.

The charge will be £200 per day for lorries, buses and coaches, and £100 per day for heavy vans and minibuses, which do not meet the necessary emissions standards. Penalty charges for non-payment are £1,000 per day for lorries and £500 per day for vans.

Vehicles that do not meet the pollution standards can be modified by fitting pollution reducing equipment or a cleaner engine.

Visit Transport for London (www.tfl.gov.uk) for further details.

Just to try to clarify - the £25 per day congestion charge and the LEZ low emission zone are two different things.

The LEZ relates to commercial vehicles (ie does not impact us directly).

The £25 per day congestion charge is a proposed change to the congestion charging scheme by Ken Livingstone, such that all cars driving through the zone emitting over 225g / km of CO2 (basically all porsches) will pay £25 per day rather than £8 per day.

However, as I have said to Kish, I think that the issue is much bigger than a few people potentially paying a higher amount of congestion charge:

This change could potentially have an impact on residual values of Porsche and other cars generally and also sets a dangerous precedent for other politicians to establish sweeping and retrospective politically motivated anti-car regulations / legislation.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Hopefully as many people as poss will take up this cause, whether the congestion charge directly impacts them or not![FONT=verdana, geneva"]

The inefficiency behind Congestion Charging and the resident's discount is quite unbelievable. Both the wife and I qualify for it (if we pay!!) and we have each had 4 letters from TFL reminding us when our current discount expires. Each reminder letter comprises two sheets of A4 plus a form which is made up of two folded A3 sheets with an envelope. I have had a confirmation this morning that my discount has been renewed (for a 4x4, so stick that Ken [:D]) which comprised three sheets of A4. A receipt for payment came separately, so that's another sheet of A4 plus postage. All in all, I make that the equivalent of 28 sheets of A4 plus 6 envelopes and postage for each of us.

Very green. [8|]

And who pays for it? Oh yes, I forgot. We do! []

The cost is high, I did not realise it was so much ... Can Ken get the foreign lorries ?

To be honest, I object to paying even the current £8, so would certainly avoid the future rip off by not driving within operating hours.

Happy (Belated) New Year to all.

Where I live in Barnes, unwittingly part of the Liberal democratic republic of Richmond, we fought hard to stop parking permit prices being linked to emissions. If I didn't have garage the permit for the turbo would be a whopping £350. Just to park it on the street.

Local residents got together, we funded it properly, set up websites, organized petitions, had huge local support. I went to the council and spoke in front the transport committee, using (I hope) balanced and objective arguments against this grotesquely unfair scheme. The local newspapers covered it extensively.

All to no avail.

The sad fact is that all political regimes (throughout the western world) have figured out that environmental justifications is a great way of a) raising taxes and b) forcing through measures that will get us to reduce dependency on carbon fuels that we have to import from countries in the Middle East and Central America who don't really like us..

Now it seems near-on impossible to get a balanced debate; every time someone objects to any initiative which is tagged as pro-environment, they are persecuted by the media and all the 'green' lobbyists.

Take the new coal fired power station in Kent. On Friday the BBC ran with it as the #1 lead story on the 8 o'clock news, and the whole tone of the coverage was how disgusting this would be...

If built it would be the first new coal fired station built in Britain in 20 years. Meanwhile the Chinese are building them at a rate of one a week...

Good luck Kish and everyone in trying to get the congestion charge stopped. Let's hope that the reign of Comrade Ken will soon be over, and Boris takes over as mayor!

Don't have this problem outside of London - in fact they are very welcoming...

Except if you do this I think you have to have a great big blue and white sticker stuck on the back of your car that says something like "for private hire only"
