£30k Porsche, what should I buy?

Morning!

I have £30k to spend on a Porsche (my 1st). I like the 911/933. All I need to know is what model/spec/colour, will depreciate the least.

A rare 'classic' 911 will depreciate least - 2.4E/S, 3.2 Club Sport, 964 RS.

However, a 993 would be more usable.

If usability is important, don't dismiss the 996 (later the better), or you could even be close to a nearly new 987 (2.7).
 
If its your first porsche think of something easy to resell.Im in the 30K region and change every 2 years max - they are all great at this level , but different.Hence the desire to change!
 
Just got back from my local JCT/Porsche dealer, and although I knew he was gonna try and sell me a boxster, he offered me a 2003, Black, Boxster 3.2S, 1 Owner, 11,000 Miles, loads of add ons, upgraded wheels. £30k, £3k deposite, and the rest at 2.7%?!?! I did'nt realise Porcshe/JCT offered such low APRs.

Sales guy reckons over 18 months, as long as I keep the miles low, that particular car is untouchable if residuals are my concearn.

Hhhmmm....
 
Richard, if you ask the specialists and check the numbers made a safe bet would be either the 911 993 2S or 4S. I belive that only around 1500 2S were made for the UK market. Having owned a few and one currently they look and drive brilliantly. They have the turbo looks without the premium of a turbo engine.

Be careful with the depreciation there.

I just picked up a Dec 2001 Boxster S with 32k on the clock and a lot of toys - 20k.

Depends on what you want from the car and what else you have to drive. A 993 2/4S or 964RS. You would not go wrong with a 996 either. On the flip side, you could buy a classic - http://www.export56.com/carsforsale/saleitem.jsp?SaleID=5.

What year are we talking? and what should the miles be?
 
This is the 3.2 Carrera Forum, so I'd say buy a 3.2 Carrera - the best you can - and pocket the rest. In fact, if you went for something very special like a speedster you would actually spend you're money.

Fair enough but what do you think you 'll do with it ? Some of the cars that depreciate least do so because / only if they are not used/ are mainly enjoyed by concours enthusiasts (ie people who like to detail the cars and enjoy the way the look etc perhaps more than driving). Of several models of low depreciating car some are better suited to daily driving, fair weather driving, track days, taking out a partner and or kids.

Like you say hmmmmmmollocks.

I wish you'd post what you actually want the car for - but if not and you just want low depreciation go and get a 911 3.2 clubsport - they are allegedly appreciating in value, or a genuine 2.4s both models are advertised for sale the in the latest copy of porsche post, the club magazine. You don't have to own a car to join the club - so why not join, get all the help and advice you need, a great magazine and some new mates. Membership might even throw in a couple of back issues if you are lucky.

If you want a 993 for under £30k which is definitely a good move in other respects it will in IMHO depreciate enough that you will notice. In the last 2 years alone I reckon the more popular 993 models have dropped nearly 20%. Course if looked after, they are often relatively economical to run because of the build quality. Maybe cost of ownership is a better criterion than depreciation !? A wise register secretary once said to me "there is no such thing as a cheap 911 " my son ....

My best advise is to test drive each of the models within your price range, driving a 3.2 is very different to a Boxster or even a 993.

Secondly as previously mention the car needs to be able to accommodate your requirement of it - daily commute, wkend toy, etc, this should be part of the equation.

You should buy a Porsche for it's driving pleasure and not how low it will depreciate

Yes, but the original post is for the car that will depreciate the least - 3.2 every time!
