£80K ON NEW GEN 2,OR SLIGHTLY USED TURBO?

Hi Fellas,
Would the people who are buying the new 997 gen 2,for around the £80k mark, not rather own a slightly used 997 Turbo instead?.Ive been watching the prices of the turbo drop dramatically over the last couple of months, and there are one or two cars that really do appear to be bargains.Surely,if you are after performance the turbo has to be considered over a gen 2 N/A car?.Regards, SIMON.[8|]

I think when it comes to buying cars like Porsches there are people who would want a new car with their own specs over a second hand every time; performance at that level for individuals who are buying it for leisure and not motorsports would unlikely influence the buying habits for such individuals.

What majority of the Porsche buying crowd (non-enthusiast) look at is having a brand new car on the driveway over a nearly new Porsche with better performance and lucky for us enthusiast (as it keeps the nearly new car prices down) the new car wins every time.

I'd say that your two options are very different from each other...
They are as Gen 1 cars let alone Gen 2

With only slight visual enhancements on the Gen 2 the TT does bring you a lot of car for the very same money..

THX911 makes a very good point - their is nothing like a new car expeeince, albeit brief. And Porsche fans are a picky lot, given the choice (and budget) we all lean towards heavilly customised cars.

However you are mirroring my thinking - the turbo has pretty much every desirable option as standard, if you can find the colour combo you want its a kind of choice with or with out Ceramics. So if I replace the beast it might just be a turbo.

Alternatively I could go to some nice Friendly people I know in Brum, and get a Revo remap and Sports Exhaust - on top of the powerkit this get you a miminum of 440hp and the same power to weight as a turbo with slightly shorter gearing:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Saves the hammering on a trade in too.

I ordered new for these reasons:

I wanted my spec
I wanted the new technology PDK and DFI
and sorry....I don't like the spoiler on the turbo; though I appreciate it is a great car!

Fellas,
My story is,i bought a new turbo in April this year.I sold it in June, because i could see the Turbo was going to loose a lot of money over the next 12 months.I didnt get my money back, but i was happy with my sale.I will definately have another Turbo, but it will be a secondhand car with very low miles only, and nowhere near the list price i paid for my last one.I think if you can get over not having to have a brand new car, there are some cracking bargains out there.Whoever ended up with my Turbo, will have ended up with an absolute peach.Im sure i could find a car similar to mine when the time comes again, but that will have lost a huge amount. There is no way a 997/2 even with PDK will feel like the turbo, they are just immense. And this is where my question comes from.Surely if you are looking for mega performance,a slightly used 997 Turbo,is better than a N/A car.Just my opinion obviously, but 505ft/lbs of torque against the C2Ss,[what,380ft/lbs torque, sorry dont know the exact figure, just a guess] makes for more smiles for me.Regards, SIMON,.
