Porsche has unveiled the new Cayenne Turbo S, which it claims to be the most powerful Porsche homologated for road use.
The behemoth sports 521bhp from its V8 bi-turbo power unit, 71bhp more than the Cayenne Turbo, with maximum torque of 531lb-ft between 2,750 and 3,750 rpm. Performance is impressive as a result: 0-62 mph in 5.2 seconds, 50-75 mph in fifth gear in 5.4 seconds, and a top speed of 167 mph.

External differences identify the new model: 20-inch SportTechno design alloy wheels, four exhaust tailpipes, the model designation at the rear and the exclusive colour of navy blue metallic.
Upgraded turbocharger

The 4.5-litre V8 engine featured in the Cayenne Turbo S remains unchanged in principle, but the two intercoolers have been uprated for improved charge cooling, thereby boosting both engine output and torque.

The heat exchangers fitted in front of the wheel arches, together with the air supply and discharge ducts, are more efficient as a result of being fabricated from aluminium and are 13mm larger than those of the Cayenne Turbo.

This has allowed an increase in boost pressure, depending on the speed range, by up to 0.2 bar to a maximum of 1.9 bar, with engine output increasing further in the process, all with no increase in fuel consumption, according to Porsche.

Running gear
The Turbo S gets bigger brake discs and callipers than the standard Turbo up to 380mm from 350mm at the front, up to 358mm from 330mm at the rear, together with better heat dissipation. The Turbo S sports 20-inch SportTechno design alloy wheels as standard.

The remainder of the machine is the same or very close to the Cayenne Turbo, including its six-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission, four-wheel drive with permanent traction control that transmits 62 per cent of the engine's power to the rear wheels and 38 per cent to the front wheels in the basic mode, variable depending on conditions.

It comes as standard with air springs with six configurable levels of ground clearance and integrated self-levelling, along with electronically variable dampers.
Other kit

Interior appointments include xenon headlights with dynamically controlled, static curve lights, electrically adjustable comfort seats at the front with a memory function and seat heating, as well as heated seats at the rear, automatic air conditioning, ParkAssist, Porsche Communication Management incorporating satellite navigation, and Bose Surround Sound System all featured as standard.

The Porsche Cayenne Turbo S goes on sale in the UK on 25 February, priced from £81,565 and includes a Porsche Driving Experience programme.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]
