I keep seeing different figures quoted for the 3.4 Carrera 2, can any one provide some proper official figures and perhaps what your real world experiences are and what you guys have achieved on rolling road, 1/4 mile times and 0-60

Cheers

This is from the 1998 Service Information Technik. Doesn't it give figures in the Driver's handbook?

Various magazines have published sub 5 second times and faster 1/4 miles. I'm sure as engines loosen up these faster times can be achieved. Also 0-60 v 0-100km/h are also different.

I'm not saying you are but I do find that some people focus in on these type of car (any car) stats and this can often become the basis of a "my car is faster than yours" debate whereas there are several other aspects to cars that dictate the overall performance and enjoyment.

Agree with Mike's comments - but just following the BHP question...

Porsche official figures are typically quite conservative - I assume the 996 folks have been on dynos too, but have a look at this link for what a typical dyno might show for a 993.

Official for a C4 is around the 285 bhp mark...

(I should say there was a view that the particular dyno might have been a bit generous - but it just goes to show you have to look at BHP with a bit of a pinch of salt)

(of course 993s have had a bit more time to "loosen up"[:D])

Exactly, but people tend to equate (round down) 0-100 to 0-60 instead of 62. That extra 2 can make a little difference [;)]

Apparently a lot, knocks off some 0.2 sec

Thanks for all the replies, I know figures aren't the b all and end all but they are a nice gauge for what kind of power to expect, I am trying to decide between a 987 Boxster 2.7 and a 992 C2, coming from an R32 GTR with a lot of power I'm seriously considering the 911 now because of the great prices but I'll start a seperate thread to try and keep this one on topic :)

May be worth checking out the following DVD on the 996 Turbo.

In the video, it is placed head to head with many performers from the far east - interesting results [;)] The drivers are all experienced Japanese drivers.

timed my2002 carrera 4 at 13.23 sec 1/4 mile at 103mph, thats the best i could get in 12 runs at Santa Pod.
Good job my mates with Beetles weren't there as they are running 12's, my fully loaded camper isnt far behind at 14.3[:D]
