0-60 time

ORIGINAL: amolak

Hi,
Is it true that the 3.2 has a quicker 0-60 time than the 964 c2/c4?

Amo

No. Well, certainly not than a C2 (about 0.5 s. slower, in fact). The off-road version* may be a bit slower, though.

Hi Amo,

I depends which tests you read. I have seen as low as 5.3 in some road tests - which is as quick as any 964 C2 tests I have seen.

Don' t want to burst your bubble Bluebottle but a 3.2 has a pretty good power to weight ratio. If memory serves correctly, we are talking 231hp to move 1210kg (book weight), whereas a C2 has 250hp to move quiet a lot more weight - 1450kg (or is that the off-road version[:D]). The advantage of the 3.6 cars is torque, and that is not so important in a 0-60 contest or indeed on a racetrack - in everyday driving it is however rather useful when you may not have the opportunity to be in just the right gear at just the right time all of the time.

Feel free to correct me if my guesstimates on weight are way off.

Richard

I have to agree with Richard. Road test reports for the 3.2 tend to range from between 5.3 to 5.6. I personally have not seen a 964 C2 or C4 road test report with figures quite that low. Of course someone else may know better????

Ahhhhhhh...............

Having sold my 964 C4 recently, to buy a 3.2, I feel allot better now.....

My wife`s 90 964 C2 is a lot quicker than my 89 3.2[], the only thing on it that is not standard is the sports box

I did see a report somewhere that the C2 was 5.2, 0 - 60

Have you checked that you are getting full throttle on the 3.2? When I bought mine it was getting less than 3/4 throttle. Apparently this is very common. Surprisingly, this made perhaps less difference than you might expect. At high rpms it was " ok" but in the midrange, in high gears especially, it was completely lacking in torque. A quick adjustment to the linkage under the accelerator and all was well. Worth checking anyway.

BTW, if by " sports box" you mean the cup bypass pipe mod that many 964s have, then it does make a difference.

I have driven 3.2s and 964s and I am hard pressed to pick with " the seat of my pants" any real difference at sensible speeds - perhaps my butt isn' t sensitive enough. I suspect that a drag race is what is called for. Any volunteers.

Hi Richard
