1/4 Mile Fun Runs

Well I ended up at Crail Racetrack yesterday with a small group and did a 3 timed runs over the 1/4 mile, just wondering if anyone else has done any timed 1/4 mile runs out of interest ??
I had a quite a lot of wheel spin in 2nd gear, and passed the line in 3rd at 115mph, probably should have changed up to 4th a bit earlier, car was on Pirelli Corsas.
The times are probably not totally representative, as a bit of practice would have made a difference for everyone I'm sure, I've posted the results anyway mainly as I came second, beaten by a bike !!
The F 599 especially had a lot of wheel spin at the start, the turbo was a 996, and a GTR in a different group was a second quicker than me later on.

(hope the list is attached)

Not really a fair comparison on the bike versus car... [:)]

11.1sec? Wouldn't mind giving the R1 a run for it's money using launch[:D] (with only one person in the car)

And the turbo S would leave it standing[;)]

The GTR did it in 11.7 secs with I presume LC, would have been good to see it against a Turbo with LC.
I'm sure with a bit of practice and hot tyres my time would come down a bit too, not that easy with cold tyres and everything in 'manual' !!

Bit far for me to come for a few blats down a 1/4 mile Sandy! Would love to give it a go somewhere a bit closer to home though![;)][8D]

I have suggested a V-Max or 1/4 mile timed sprint here on the forum many times and recently Portsche Club Motorsport .... I am sure if an event was organised it would be well over subscribed with a BBQ tagged on ... volunteers anyone?

Tell me more... I've done V-max a few times and had a great day out...

Simples .... there is a VW all comers meet, handful Potrsche and Lambo, Fezza show up at North Weald each year, pay your £20 AND HAVE AS MANY 1/4 mile timed runs you can queue for, some bikes some nitrous, scooby crowd and the Jap testerone boys too ... A lot of fun, bouncy catsles, food, beer etc great family day out and a lot of burn out ...

OK .... an exclusive Porsche only event can not be that expensive to hold. Even if we said £100.00 a car for the day had 50 cars running against each other some BBQ. Hire the gear and say North Weald or anywhere else sign a disclaimer saying you are going to burn your clutch and Bobs your Uncle. The kettle Turbos would walk it, but sure the 964RS boys would have a go and ALL the other Registers .... why don't we do this!

Yes and V-MAX too at Brunters NOT rocket science here ... let's move with the times Motorsport and offer more than Track Days .... it's so much fun and IT MAKES MONEY TOO!

It was great fun and I'd do it again, especially a properly organised Porsche event, or even a joint 'super car' type one for a bit extra 'edge' to the competition ??

There is this
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=18&t=975489&mid=0&nmt=RAF+Odiham+1%2F4+mile+day

on the 25th April.

I have e-mailed the organiser to ask, if the event is a success and the powers that be are happy, would they consider hosting a Porsche only 1/4 mile type event.

They stopped doing trackdays at Odiham (great shame) because they had a lot of damage to airfield lighting and such.

I'd be up for Odiham, although I am not sure my clutch would be for standing starts. You guys with launch control would have a field day!!

I think to its a great idea, I think it raises funds for the Help the Heros too.

It could be just a V-max day Alex to see top speeds rather than having to slam the clutch every time..
As said earlier I did a V-max day and we had the option of standing starts which was half the fun..
You just match up those that do and don't...

I agree that the LC guys would be fun- however I'm sure they'll be making the same excuses [;)]

Des, would we need to hire a tow truck to bring the 964RS boys back from the other end??

Just watched a couple of Odiham videos

Shame they stopped doing this at Odiham.

The Vbox video hire might be a good idea though as shown in the YouTube vids...

You cheeky bu66er ..... they'll be going long after your cars are blinged rap gangster chariots ..... [;)]

Seriously someone take up the baton here and organise either a V-Max or Standing 1/4 event .... I'm sure the Club will help, we have to take the lead to show it works, and yes let's invite the Lambo and Fezza etc ...... that tow truck will be needed!

Let's see if I get a positive response from Odiham in the first instance and if not then look for another venue.

Anyone fancy a whip round to buy RAF Lyneham next year...........[;)]

See post 10- an email has been sent [;)]
You have to hang on tight in here...

If you bring Fezza and Lambo's to the party it does raise noise issues, the Porsches do run a lot quieter...
Although I'm sure we'd all be up for a challenge...[:)]
