1 year on.

I have now passed the 1 year of ownership point of my 996 Targa. I love it, but it has thrown a few tantrums, the most annoying being the smoke on start up. This really winds me up, so once the new budget has been agreed with the mrs, I'll get the AOS replaced.

So far I have

replaced front discs and pads
replaced the rear tyres, and they're nearly worn out after 9k. Not much tread to start with for new tyres was my initial concern.
replaced the clutch, drove to work and thr pedal stuck to the floor, got IMS seal and RMS done at the same time.
replaced the droplinks after some rattling, and now no rattles (still have a pair of TRW coffin arms to fit)
Exhausts replaced

I've had two services from different places, and both times the engine was over filled by 1 litre of oil. Don't undertsand why this would be the case.

The rear wiper was siezed when I got the car, and it seemed the only way to resolve was to replace the glass. But after everywash, I took the rubber seal out and sprayed with eith Silicon spray, plus gas or WD40. It now works a treat, So it's not all bad.

So to my question, is this a typical year of ownership cost wise? Or have I had more issues/worn parts than most?

I would say it is fairly typical expenditure to get a car up to scratch in the first year, to be honest. There are very few 996's on the market that have been looked after like you would want. At least you won't need disks, pads, clutch, IMS, RMS, droplinks and exhausts for a while!

Once up to scratch, I reckon £1500-2000/year for servicing, tyres, brakes, etc., is a reasonable yardstick for a daily driver, depending on use.

Spot on as usual Richard, had mine a year just had a service and with the small jobs during the year around £1500. Love the car!
