Hi All,

My 993 C4S with 57k miles has just had a 48k service ('The Big One') at my local OPC and the engine was filled with Formula RS 10/60 semi synthetic oil. I'm concerned over their choice of oil - does anyone have an thoughts on this and is 10/60 semi syn oil Porsche approved as I'm struggling to find out if it is?

Thanks

Graham

Nice one Maurice - was hoping you might pop by!

I posted this because I knew in my own mind that 10/60 semi syn was not right but needed clarity from a reliable source.

My invoice states Formula RS 10/60 semi syn - I believe this may have been replaced by Edge Sport or vise versa - not quite sure? The OPC could not give any firm reason why they use the 10/60 semi syn on 'older' Porsches except that they have done so for a long time and the thicker viscosity helps to plug any leaks? - not that I have any.

They couldn't show me anything that stated 'Porsche Approved' ......... so today I presented them with a copy of the Oil Tech Article from this forum to help them [:D] and promptly had them change the oil to 5w-40 Synthetic at their cost, which is the oil I have used for the last 6 years without problem.

Thanks for your clarity and hopefully this post will highlight to others and raise awareness

Hi John,

So was I and hence the reason for submitting this post. My C4S has been serviced by them for the last 4 years with them using 5w-40 synthetic oil - so you can imagine my horror and disbelief. What was more concerning was the fact that they could see no wrong!!!!!
