10 speaker sound system

I have another 951 coming tomorrow and it has the 10 speaker sound system option. I would like to swap it out into my car that I keep (a red 951).

From what I have read, it should be an easy job as my red car should have the wiring loom for the 10 speaker
system ready to plug and play despite not being speccced with the system from the factory.

Anyone done this before? Any advice?

I wouldn't bother. IME they don't really sound all that much better (they are mounted quite poorly from the factory, worse since now the plastic is cracking and become brittle where the speaker mounts. You would be better off upgrading the speakers in your existing car in addition to deadening the doors. With a good CD you may be surprised at the difference just the above can make.

You would need to change the door cards to do it correctly.......or at least modify yours!
I agree the speakers will be past their best, Change it over if you wish but replace the speakers and crossovers with modern units!
Rear panels need to be changed or modified to take the 10 speaker grilles

Hmmm... Thanks for that. I don't think I'll bother now. My keeper car already has a really good system with a little amp sub and speakers so I would probably be taking a step back sound wise. I just thought the 10speaker option suits the cabin and is a desireable feature, but I would probably have to upgrade all the speakers to be happy with it if what you say is true.. A lot of hassle for not a lot of gain probably..
Yes..I got both the black the 951's in Cheshire and Lanarkshire.. Both need some mechanical and cosmetic fairy dust and detaling and will be available in the near future.

EDIT: you got in before me Ken..! If I do this job I will swap over all four door cards and rear. Fortunatly both cars have Linen cabins.

I'm still interested in this, so I'm thinking I could drop both cars at Soundmaster and tell him to do the swap over and upgrade the speakers too.. Shouldn't be too expensive really..

Yeah.. Guy owned it for 24years. Him plus dealer demo, so really a one owner car and sub 100k miles. Needs recommissioning as been stored for 5 years, belts servicing and whatever else, it needs the leather reconilising and a bolster repair, some minor cosmetics to rectify.. Plenty to keep everyone busy for a while..

Funnily enough I wondered who might have bought this one.

I was chatting with the owner a while back about this, we agreed a good price in principal but cost of transporting it down south and the lack of recent paperwork/maintenance made me look elsewhere in the end.

Good spec though and will be a nice original car once freshened up a bit.

Yeah.. Got it few days ago, it's a cracker! Totally undersold, his pics were terrible and they nearly condemned the car. In reality, it's a belter. He owned it 24years..dealer demo plus one owner. Needs tiny bit of paint (not due to rot, just wear) new stone guards, belts, service, exhaust, bonnet strut, seat repair. It lay unused (but consistently motd) since 2008. Drives great, really, nice and tight like an unabused car. It has been garaged all its life and is a marvel to behold underneath.
Delivery chap who collected commented he picked it up from a million pound house..car never fell into bad hands like some 10owner cars can do.

Yes - I do sometimes regret not buying it, for £5500, on paper it was very good value.

Trouble is, it was ideal for someone with cash to spend or a trader - for me, I had my 944S at the time and was on the lookout for a 'cheap' Turbo. This one was cheap, but would have needed a few quid spent having been off road a few years and also had advisories for fuel lines and one of the sills from memory. That and the lack of history since '98 meant it would no doubt have needed money spending right away, which I didn't have left in the pot!

It will be a cracker once recommisioned though.

I ended up buying a slightly cheaper one locally, not as good on paper with no history prior to ~2000, but had had £10k spent in tbe last 12 months and was mechanically well sorted. Just needing a bit of cosmetic work to bring her back up to scratch.

Look forward to seeing some pics once sorted :)

Ouch, I paid him the full asking price.. I had been 2nd in line, a chap viewed who got his phone call in before me and took a week to make up his mind, meanwhile I had told the man to not to accept a penny less than the asking price as I was happy not to haggle.
