Todays Autocar is jammed back with pages and pages on forthcoming Boxster C7S circa £50K and to be followed by a cheaper smaller engined 3.2 version C7. Also has attached 2.7 Road Test [8D]

Every test on the "S" I've read basically questions the wisdom of forking out another £20k for a 997 - does this article question the wisdom of spending the extra on the "S" over the 2.7?

[;)]Nope not at all as I think its been a deliberate ploy, by Autocar at least, not to have done any serious testing of an "S" just yet which I am sure will conclude it's the performance the car requires but at a high price compared to the inferior competition etc :ROFLMAO:

Thanks Rob for posting the Autocar article - I suppose I shall now have to buy a copy for the archive.

Do my eyes deceive me, or does Part 4 near the bottom of the page say 'Warranty 3 years/60,000 miles'? My OPC reckons 2 years still applies. A 3 year warranty would certainly mitigate the dreaded RMS risk.

I hope it is 3 years - then I can give my salesman another bad time, for granting me a whole 19 minutes test drive in response to my order!

[]Sorry Brian I double checked this with my PC and its usual badly researched b*ll*x

To be honest, after reading that article I'm a bit bloody annoyed... Ok so the boxster isnt the fastest roadster around... big deal... Reading that article you started to get the impression that its maybe sort of an ok car - yet they still say its the best roadster around. Methinks they need a bit of off the wall Clarkson enthusiasm...

I recently got out of two cars to get into my boxster. I used to drive an 89 944S2, and whilst the boxster cant even compare on the sheer torque of the S2 and its ability to pin you to the seats, the boxster is in a league of its own IMHO.

I will never forget the day I sat in my first boxster and was forced to start the engine to close the hood (6"2' - you have to check these things). I swear I nearly cried when I heard that flat 6 burbling behind me. I was a goner from then.

Its about how it makes you feel when you are in that cliched zone place. the Z4 is an over rated, over priced over stiffened car and I never got a good feeling from driving one (oh and its really and I mean really ugly). The boxster is a fast car when you want it to be, but I have never driven a BMW that can happily sit at 50mph in top gear in traffic and still purr...

I dont care about RMS leaks.... I dont care about the odd thing my digital clock seems to do (well, ok I do a bit - but its all under warranty anyway).... all I care about is the May wedding I have to go to in Switzerland and how that is going to be my excuse for taking the car through the alps with the top down and wishing for my groundhog day....

I have found Nirvana and its somewhere near Stuttgart (Non disclosure agreement prevents me from releasing any more details)

Nuff said...
